According to NVIDIA, the launch of GeForce RTX 3070 will be delayed by two weeks until October 29th. Recently the RTX 3080 was released and sold out before many users had a chance to buy it. Similar to the pre-orders for Xbox and PS5, the rocky experience resulted in unhappy customers, and NVIDIA wants to avoid that result with the RTX 3070.
NVIDIA says a delay should help prevent these events from happening again. If you move the launch day to October 29th, you can get more graphics cards into gamers’ hands. Presumably, NVIDIA will be able to produce more cards in time for the new launch day due to the additional time.
At launch, the RTX 3070 should be 60% faster than the previous generation RTX 2070 while maintaining the $ 500 price tag. That promise is likely to result in brisk sales. Hopefully the delay decision will result in anyone who wants the card actually receiving it.
