The fifth Oculus Connect Developer Conference will be held this week in San Jose, California. Not only should VR developers meet and discuss the future of immersive technologies, but expect Facebook ̵

1; the owner of Oculus – to take the next steps for VR (and AR) next steps. And yes, that could reveal new hardware.

When is Oculus Connect?

The event is Wednesday, September 25 and Thursday, September 26 in San Jose.

The big Keynote presentation starts on Wednesday at 10 am PT (1 pm ET) and is scheduled to last 2 hours

How can I look online?

The keynote will be streamed live on Facebook. Watch the livestream starting at 10 o'clock PT. (We'll try to embed the video on this page as soon as the stream starts.)

If you do not want to sign up for Facebook, videos should also be posted on Facebook's YouTube channel Oculus VR.

How can I see in VR?

Facebook streamed the Oculus VR keynotes for the first time in the company's [OculusVenues app . Oculus Venues is Facebook's first attempt to create a live social viewing site where videos can be viewed in a virtual stadium environment with an audience of human avatars. Oculus Venues is only available on Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR Headsets. Here are all the ways to follow:

  • Download Oculus Venues on Oculus Go and Samsung Gear VR, which promises VR Avatar shipments during the conference, if you want to see it. (I'll keep a Samsung Galaxy phone powered up with Gear VR and / or Oculus Go nearby.)
  • VR's VR eSports page displays VR game information and events associated with Oculus Connect.
  • Oculus Rift users can not use venues, but there are ways to make a group Hangout and watch the stream in the Rift Core 2.0 beta.

What to Expect

Last year, Facebook unveiled its first stand-alone VR headset, Oculus Go . This year, Oculus will be introducing many more details about its standalone next generation VR headset, codenamed Project Santa Cruz which has not yet got a price, release date, or even a real name. This model is expected to be between the high-end Oculus Rift PC-connected and the Oculus Go entry-level Oculus Go introduced earlier this year at $ 199, $ 199 or $ 299.

It is always possible we hear of price cuts for the aging Oculus Rift PC headset or this year's Oculus Go. Connect will also discuss the future of VR sometimes far beyond any immediate time frame.

We will update this page with the most important news from the event.
