While Google I / O was announced to introduce a system-wide dark mode for Android phones. The release of Android Q will be later this year. Google has once again come up with the benefits of a dual mode or theme: less eye strain in darker environments and darker surfaces will reduce your phone's battery life.
Google has flirted with an official dark theme in recent years and even added a half-baked version to Android Pie 9.0. But with Android Q, the company provides developers with the right tools to support a full-fledged, dark topic. With no real dark mode on Android, third-party developers are committed to adding dark modes to their respective apps. With the launch of Android Q, which is still a few months away, we have found a handful of apps that you can use now and that look damn good.
Apps with a dark mode that looks amazing
The official Android news app has a lot of features. One of the most underrated features is dark mode support. You also do not have to go through the settings to turn it on. Open the app, tap the three-dot menu icon in the upper-right corner, and turn on Dark Mode.
Feedly's dark mode is found by opening the page area and selecting Settings > Theme > Night . It's a nice touch, especially if you spend a lot of time reading various news and articles.

The popular podcast app PocketCasts also has a dark mode. Activate the dark mode by going to the Profile tab and then tapping the Settings icon in the upper right corner. Next, go to Appearance > Theme . Choose between dark or extra dark.
Google Maps does not have a dedicated dark mode throughout the app. Instead, there is a night mode that is used during night navigation and its use can force you at any time. Slide out the menu on the left side of the screen and go to Settings> Navigation Settings . Scroll down and select Night below the color scheme area of the map viewer.
The official reddit app uses a few different settings for the dark mode. You can turn on the night topic at any time in Theme or let the app decide when to go dark, based on the time of day or your phone's power saving mode.
The YouTube app looks much better with the dark mode enabled.by opening the app and then tapping on your profile icon> Settings > General > Dark Theme .
Do you spend a lot of time in Slack? Then you should use the dark mode. You'll find the app's settings toggled by tapping the three-dot icon in the upper-right corner, then Settings. Scroll down and find the dark mode. Tap on it and select Next.
There are many more apps that support a dark mode or night theme. If you really want to go all-in in the dark, look in the Settings section of each app for the option to change the look of the app.
Google Photos now has a dark mode, which activates whenever you turn on a dark or night theme on your Android phone. There is no toggle switch in the app's Settings menu, and there seems to be no special update that has enabled the toggle switch. Currently we have access to Pixel 3 XL, but not to OnePlus 7 Pro. The feature seems to be only slowly available. If your Android phone does not have a dark theme, turn it on in the Settings app in the Settings app.
System-level dark mode
If Android Pie is running on your phone, you can turn on the built-in dark mode. The process depends on who made your device and what adjustments were made to Android. In most cases, however, the following should work: Settings > Display > Extended ]> Device Theme > Dark . After turning it on, check the Quick Settings panel or your Google feed – both should be dark now.
When Samsung introduced the One UI interface for Galaxy phones that includes Android Pie, a night mode was added (instead of the dark theme approach). Enable Night Mode in Settings > Display > Night Mode .
Samsung's night mode is more aggressive to darken the surface. For example, the Settings app changes almost immediately from a white background to a black one. The quick settings panel and the individual notifications are also dark. You will also find dark versions of almost all preloaded Samsung apps when the dark mode is activated.
