Apple doubled health research this year with the launch of three new health studies focusing on hearing, and and referring to physical activity , which serves as a portal for these studies. This app can now be downloaded by anyone.
Apple is working with leading medical schools and health organizations to collect data with the goal of collecting real-world health information that would otherwise be unavailable. In most cases, an average person would not take part in any research study, unless it is referred by a doctor or is looking for a separate study. By allowing anyone with an iPhone ($ 660 on Amazon) and an Apple Watch ($ 399 on Apple) to join, you can occupy a wider network.
I would be glad if I did not talk about the privacy and security of the health information you submit to the Research App. Apple, for its part, has stated that it will not sell your data and you can control what types of data you send.
Before agreeing to participate in a study, you will be given details of what the study will contain, how the data will be collected and used, the background and purpose of the study, and the lead investigators and more. You can stop participating in any of the studies at any time, and each study will guide you through all the relevant informed consent forms that you must sign.
If you're still having problems, do not download the app. Regardless of which health information is already stored in theon your iPhone, it is private and secure and will not automatically be shared with Apple for these studies, unless you download the Research App and expressly agree.
The Apple Health trials are available now.
You can currently enroll in three studies. I assume that Apple will add more studies in the coming years.
Apple Hearing Health Study
Analyzes the effects of loud noise on long-term hearing health with the Noise app on the Apple Watch. The study is being conducted in collaboration with the University of Michigan and the World Health Organization. Apple estimates that this study will take at least two years.
For this study, you will be asked to complete surveys and attend hearing tests with EarPods or AirPods ($ 1
Apple Women's Health Study
Investigates how menstrual cycles can be studied for diseases such as infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), pregnancy, menopause, and osteoporosis. This study is being conducted in collaboration with the Harvard School of Public Health and the National Institutes of Health. Apple estimates that this study can take decades. However, you will be asked every two years if you would like to participate in the study.
During the study, you will be asked to complete surveys and tell your menstrual history throughout the year.
Apple Heart & Movement Study
tracks the correlation between physical activity and heart health. In particular, it will examine how signals such as walking speed and stair climbing affect quality of life, hospitalization, falls, and other cardiovascular health features. This study is being conducted in collaboration with the American Heart Association and Brigham and Women's Hospital. According to Apple, this study will take at least five years.
This study captures theand of your Apple Watch records if you want to enable these features. You will also be asked to complete health surveys.
