The battle between the pixels and the iPhones has intensified in recent years, and this year's fight is the best yet. Google's Pixel 3 Records Apple's iPhone X S
Why is the 2018 lineup the best competition between the two flagships? Because both Google and Apple have eliminated the idea of an inferior smaller phone, since the Pixel 3 and iPhone X S are virtually the same as their larger XL and Max counterparts. The only things that differ between the smaller and larger models are the display size and the battery size.
For the first time, both the smaller and the larger models are the best of any company. For those with smaller hands, Pixel 3 and iPhone X S are unfortunately larger than the smallest models of the last year. Now we have two smartphones that would be considered a phablet size just a few years ago.
Before we get to the discussion points, let's look at the specifications side by side.
For the first time, both smaller phones include an OLED panel. Apple is again using the Samsung developed Super AMOLED, while Google uses the POLED technology from LG. The iPhone X S is a leader in most categories, with a larger display at 5.8 inches compared to the 5.5 inches of the Pixel 3, as well as a higher resolution, resulting in a slightly higher Pixel density leads.
However, the Pixel 3 still has an "advantage" over the iPhone X S : no display notch. And while it has a bigger forehead, the difference between the screen-to-body ratio is much smaller than in previous years. As a result, you still get a relatively small overall size and no unsightly notch. In addition, the Pixel 3 has a more traditional resolution of 2160 x 1080, which makes it easy to display videos in 1080p format, comparable to Apple's unusual resolution of 2436 x 1125.
As for the front cameras, the main difference is the additional Pixel 3 camera – the wide-angle lens. With this lens, also enhanced by the Visual Core, Pixel 3 can incorporate more users into the photos for better group selfies. Also, the Pixel 3 has a slightly higher megapixel at 8 MP vs Apple's 7 MP.
For the rest of the specifications, the Pixel 3 and iPhone X S are more equal than different. Both use 4 GB of RAM. Both start with 64GB of storage space, although the iPhone X S offers more storage with 256GB and 512GB (the Pixel 3 offers only 128GB).
Both are still missing Jack's headphones, but the Pixel 3 contains the headphone dongle in the box. The same story goes for fast charging – both support USB Power Delivery for fast charging – but only the Pixel 3 contains the fast charger in the box.
