A few changes can significantly extend battery life.

The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL can take amazing photos, but early reviews (and my own experiences) all point to a poor battery life. It's not clear what the main culprit is, but hopefully Google will be able to fix it through future software updates.

Until then, you can take a few steps to maximize the battery life of your Pixel 4. Some of these steps involve disabling some of Pixel 4's new features. Yes, that's impractical, but if your phone shuts itself off before the end of the day, some sacrifices will be required.

The following five steps can improve the battery life of your Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL.

. 1 Disabling the Always-On Display

It is convenient for the time and pending notifications to be constantly displayed on the screen of your phone, but an always-on display shortens the battery life of your phone] Settings > Display > Lock Screen and turn off Always On .

. 2 Turning off the Smooth Display

The Pixel 4 display has a maximum refresh rate of 90 Hz, which affects the battery life. When delivered, the phone automatically switches between 60 Hz and 90 Hz, depending on what you are watching. However, you can turn off Smooth Display to get the most out of your phone's battery.

Go to Settings > Display > Smooth Display and disable it. When the Smooth Display is off, your phone's display will stay at a refresh rate of 60 Hz, saving some battery power.

. 3 Turning off Motion Sense

Motion Sense, which allows you to wake up your phone or change songs by detecting a flick of the wrist, constantly scanning and searching for movement in front of your phone. This of course affects the battery life.

Disable Motion Sense under Settings > System > Motion Sense . With a wave of your hand, you can not switch between songs, and your morning alarm sounds until you turn it off by tapping the screen. At least you save a little battery, right?

. 4 Use the dark theme of Android 10

Google improves battery life by using a darker theme or theme on your phone, and Android 10 happens to have a special dark theme.

When this option is enabled, most Google-owned apps and third-party apps replace the typical white background with darker colors, reducing the screen's power consumption.

Go to Settings> Display and slide the switch next to Dark Theme to the position A .

. 5 Use normal wallpapers.

The new live action wallpapers are fun and entertaining, but they also consume more battery power. So if you try to save as much energy as possible, you should stick to a standard image.

We have a series of photos taken with Pixel 4 that will impress even hardcore iPhone users, as well as instructions for using the coolest feature of Pixel 4, Live Caption , and a handful of hidden features we dug up.
