Group chats in WhatsApp are great for communicating with multiple people at the same time. However, this can be a blessing and a curse – every message you send is seen by everyone and is not always ideal. Fortunately, there is a new feature that allows you to privately reply to group messages.
Effective in version 2.18.380, you can use WhatsApp privately to respond from a chat participant directly out of the chat, without this being required. Start a separate conversation from scratch. The feature is available for both iOS and Android devices, with minor implementation differences, but I will explain the differences below.
Post Private Answer
First, you need the latest version of WhatsApp. So install the update from the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android).
Well, if you want to reply to a message in a group chat, but you only want the sender to see your answer by long pressing the message. From there, tap either "Reply privately" at the command prompt (iOS) or tap the three-way menu button, select and then "Reply to Home" (Android). Enter your message as usual and press the Send button.
Whether you're on Android or iOS, any private discussions you have with a group chat participant are on a separate conversation page that is away from the group itself. The person you respond to can keep the conversation private by posting their answers on this chat page. This ensures that private messages are not inadvertently displayed in group chat.
