The Roborock S6 is a viable vacuum cleaner, but an expensive mop.

The idea of a single device that lets you clean all floors of your home is appealing. Unfortunately it is still an idea. The Roborock S6 is probably the best we can do right now.

What we like

  • Great app functionality
  • Quiet operation
  • Excellent card system

And what we do not do

  • Wiping is ineffective
  • . , , and requires additional setup
  • Smarthome features are missing

The S6 is a standard robotic vacuum cleaner that has the most bells and whistles you would expect from its premium price. With a surprisingly intuitive smartphone app, it is extremely competent in dealing with carpets and hardwood dirt. The outstanding feature, an integrated wiper system, however, is a bit disappointing.

The wiping function itself is absent because both a home robot and a device attempting to be a convergent have limited capacity. With all the extra steps required to activate the mop and get it working in a specific area, you can also roll up your sleeves, break out the bucket, and do it the old-fashioned way.

The Roborock does not look very conspicuous as a household appliance, and maybe that's what it's about. The white plastic version we received as a tester is appealing and the discreet charging station should fit in most living spaces, even if you choose a black or a rose gold version. This is the default layout for sci-fi pizzas. On the top of the device is a small disc that acts as an air outlet for the vacuum cleaner. Open the access opening under the exhaust and the three control buttons and you will find the trash can, which comes out for easy emptying without having to turn the robot over. (It's not quite expensive or complex enough to do it yourself, as with some top models.) If you need to flip it over, you'll have easy access to the roller brush assembly and slot to install the optional wiper component.

It's all about a sharp-looking packaging, and the outlet opening on the top is as distinctive as these things can be. But here is a tip: Choose the black option if you live in a house with pets. In fact, that applies to almost everything in a house with pets.

Service-friendly sucking with a great app

The S6 manages autonomously quite large spaces, at least for the vacuum cleaner component. The numerous integrated laser and pressure sensors actively record an entire floor plan and then clean every single point they can find. The movement is a bit strange – it looks random and incoherent – but it does the work.

In hours of cleaning I had only a few complaints about the vacuum function. First, messages are often sent via "brush blocked", especially when the dust container is almost full. Second, it is not clear how to put it in Wi-Fi connection mode. (Keep the home page and map keys pressed at the same time. You're welcome to google searchers.)

The map and programming app is surprisingly good.
The mapping and programming app is surprisingly good.

You can get the S6 up and running right away by setting up the Dock and pressing the center button. However, to really use this gadget, you need to install the Roborock app on your phone (Android, iOS). This will give you a live overview of how the vacuum cleaner works, warn you if the vacuum cleaner is stuck, is full or otherwise in need of attention, or even locate it if it gets lost and it works with border strips (also known as cordon tape) ), but the app brings everything together pretty well. My only wish is that it connects to my Google Home system – the vacuum works with Smarthomes, but only if they use MiHome from Xiaomi. That seems to be a very small number of users outside of China. Fortunately, the main app's scheduling and rest features cover everything I want to do.

In operation, the S6 is surprisingly quiet, so my dog was just confused instead of spooky and his rugged rubber wheels can jump over ground barriers of more than a half inch thanks to a neat push "system 5 hours, unless hung on anything, that's enough to clean all the carpets in my 2 bedroom condo, it's also suitable for simply vacuuming hard floors … but then you come to wipe.

Everything Wipes

If you want to use the S6 as a robotic mop, you'll need to fill the optional water tank, apply and install the squeegee – and this assumes that you've already applied the moisture blocking cover to the dock and that Once it's done, the robot injects water through the brush and lasts about an hour ng on, before it has to be refilled. Oh, and the device makes no difference between carpet and hard floor depending on its map: If you want to keep the wet brush off the carpet when wiping, you'll need to set up a custom zone in the app Barricade Tape (also called Boundary Strip) or just set Barriers to the ground.

  The wiping tool slides down.

I hesitate to call this a "wipe," as the size and weight of the device mean that it is more of a light intoxication with some water. The thing just does not have the pressure to remove dirt bigger than a little bit of juice. For the price of this all-in-one device, you could buy a simpler robotic vacuum cleaner and a robotic mop from the Braava line – or just do it with an old-fashioned mop if you do not have a lot of hard floor cleaning. The cleaning program takes only a little more time and effort.

Instructions for Using the Wiper Module

All this would be forgivable without the fact that the user would not be there The manual tells me that I should not leave the wiping component in the robot when it does is in normal vacuum operating mode. These are two annoying steps that have been added to a system that should work almost effortlessly.

(Not possible) Come Right Now

Based on my experience with the Roborock S6 I can recommend it as a vacuum cleaner. , , if you can find it with a substantial discount. The excellent mapping system and app control are commendable, and I think buyers should try out the same company's E20 and E25 models at half the price of the S6.

The S6 is so expensive that buying another robot vacuum and a separate robotic mop is preferable. Michael Crider

Wiping leaves something to be desired. It is interesting that a machine can do both, but in practice the tedious switching between vacuum and mop operation was not worth the mediocre result of cleaning. If you want a little light, periodic blending that runs automatically, spend the difference on a second, dedicated robot.
