Root Your Pixel 4 with Magisk – The Beginner's Guide «Android :: Gadget Hacks

Pixel 4 is one of the most talked-about phones in 2019, so you're sure that there will be plenty of support for third-party developers. The mods are already there, so you should install Magisk as soon as possible to get root access. The current method of rooting is a bit lengthy, but it's worth it.

Rooting allows you to optimize, customize and change everything you want at the system level. With Magisk, you can also share Google's SafetyNet. This means you can continue to use all your favorite financial apps, including Google Pay. Magisk made some important changes for Android 10 and Pixel 4. Let us begin so that you can check it.

  • Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL ( Non-Verizon Models ))
  • Windows, Mac, or Linux Computer
  • USB Cable

Step 1 : Unlocking the Bootloader

First you need to unlock the bootloader on your phone so you can run unofficial firmware like Magisk. Note that unlocking the bootloader automatically deletes your data. However, there is no way around it. If you have not already done so, read the following tutorial to unlock your bootloader.

Step 2: Make sure you're using the correct Android build

The following files are for Android build only for use in November 2019 for the Pixel 4 or 4 XL. To make sure your phone is compatible, go to Settings -> About the phone and tap on "Android version". If the field "Android Security Level" is November 5, 2019 you can start. If not, update your phone.

Step 3: Download the patched boot image.

Usually you need to download Google's factory image package, just extract the boot image, transfer the image to your phone, and run it. Use the Magisk Manager app to patch and add the root files. Then send it back to your computer and update the patched boot image in Fastboot. Not this time.

Instead, just download one of the pre-patched boot images we found. These are the official boot images from Google and the only change is that they were run through Magisk. Click one of the following links from your computer to download the patched boot image for your device and network operator:

If you do not want to use a pre-patched image, you can do it yourself. Follow these steps :

  1. Download the full factory image package for your model.
  2. Extract the downloaded ZIP file.
  3. Extract the second ZIP file in the extracted folder.
  4. Locate the "boot.img" file and move it to your phone's memory

Step 5: Download the Platform Tools Package

To flash the patched boot image and enable root, you need Google's SDK Platform tools on your computer. Click one of the following links to download the tool, extract the ZIP file, and place the extracted folder on your desktop .

If you are using Windows, press the Windows key on your keyboard. Then type "cmd" and press Enter to open a Command Prompt window. If you're using Linux or Mac, just open the Terminal app.

Now type "cd" at the command prompt and add a space, but do not press Enter . Instead, drag the folder platform-tools that you extracted in step 5 from your desktop and place it at the top of the Command window. This will populate the folder location. If so, press Enter.
