Just in time for the release of Pixar's long awaited sequel, AR Emoji has arrived based on characters from The Incredibles 2 for Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 +.
Originally announced at the launch of Samsung's latest flagship devices Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash, Jack-Jack and Frozone complement the existing lineup of Disney characters, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck in the AR Avatar app.
Galaxy S9 owners can add the character set by typing the AR emoji mode into their camera, then tap the plus sign icon and choose the Incredibles AR Emoji from the Galaxy Apps Store.
"Samsung Electronics and Disney have recently teamed up to make communication a little more incredible by bringing classic Disney characters to life as AR Emojis," the electronics giant said of a statement. "The recent collaboration between the companies serves as an incredible example of AR Emoji's ability to make communicating with friends more personal and entertaining."
Samsung's response to Apple's Animoji on the iPhone X works the same way. The front camera of the Galaxy S9 and S9 + reflects the facial movements of the user with animated characters. Users can also create animated doppelgangers (not unlike Snapchat's Bitmoji platform) that mimic each of their expressions.
While it would be easy to refuse AR Emojis as another attempt to copy Apple. Samsung has managed to distinguish the app with iconic characters from Disney's large collection of popular characters. The effort is likely enough to swing some undecided and most hardcore Disney fanatics from the iPhone to the Galaxy line of smartphones.
Front effects remain an easy access to AR for mainstream consumers and a popular tactic of marketing departments.
