Save on these cable cutter credit cards at Netflix, Amazon Video, HBO and Spotify

  04 Credit Card Streaming

With the right credit card, you can save money on your streaming bill.

Sarah Tew / CNET

As Streaming TV becomes more popular, each additional subscription damages your wallet.

Thirteen dollars for Netflix here, six dollars for Hulu there and another fifteen for HBO – assuming you do not cancel the Game of Thrones is broken – can really count. And with new services such as Disney Plus [194559006] WarnerMedia and Apple TV Plus cable cutters are facing more reasons to spend a few dollars each month.

A great way to save is simply to change the credit card you use to stream. The savings are in the form of cashback, which basically comes back every time you sign up for a subscription.

The Apple Card (coming this summer), Amazon Prime Visa American Express & # 39; Blue Cash Preferred and About Visa offer cash for selected customers Streaming video and music services. That's how they pile up.

Four string cutters in comparison

annual fee $ 95 No No No

Which one is best for me?

The more legitimate subscriptions you have, the more you save, but how much depends on where you pay for them. Some cards do not offer reimbursement for certain services – for example, there is no 5% Netflix discount on the Amazon Prime card. In these cases, the services receive the regular cashback of 1% of the card.

  • The Amex Blue Cash card is the most versatile since it works with almost all the major streaming services (including Netflix) and has the highest of the four cashbacks, at 6%. However, to realize the savings, you must overcome the $ 95 annual fee. This is easier if you pay for many subscriptions, especially for expensive subscriptions like Live TV Streaming .
  • To get maximum savings with the 5% refund of the Amazon Prime Card, you must subscribe to services such as HBO, Starz and MLB TV via Amazon Prime Video Channels . While you must be a Prime member, you will receive 5% off this $ 119 annual fee when you pay with this card.
  • To get the most out of your Apple Card's 3% cashback, you'll need to subscribe to Apple's services (such as Apple Music and iCloud), as well as HBO, Showtime, and others through the new Apple TV app channels ].
  • Non-renewal cards include a 2% Uber card refund for many services that do not require "channel" subscriptions. This makes them a solid choice as an "everyday" card for online shopping. However, the 2% reward makes it harder to earn savings.

The choice of the map also depends on what you still buy in addition to streaming services.

The American Express card gives you 6% cashback for groceries and 3% for gasoline This can, for example, make a significant contribution to offsetting this annual fee. Amazon Prime members, who frequently shop on Amazon.com, are likely to benefit from using the Prime card and switching from services such as HBO or Showtime to Prime Video channels. The same goes for those who are happy with Apple's system using Apple Music and iCloud, and it does not matter to pay via Apple TV for HBO, Showtime or Starz.

Here are more details on all four cards we have compared.
