Seth Meyers found it “so cathartic” that regular voters “put Trump in his place” during the ABC town hall this week, largely because it has become extremely rare at the time.
“That happens when Trump steps out of his right-wing media bubble,” he said Late night Host said. “Mostly he surrounds himself with sycophants and yes men. That’s why he’s rarely treated like the idiot he is. “For example, instead of interrupting him when he” calls Fox & Friends and grazes for an hour, “said Meyers,” the hosts just sit there and stare blankly at the camera as if they are posing for passport photos. ”
During Trump’s most recent appearance on the show, he attempted to enforce the unsubstantiated conspiracy theory that his rival Joe Biden was using some form of performance-enhancing drug.
“Trump and his supporters in the right-wing media really wanted to turn the presidential campaign into a referendum on the mental fitness of the candidates,” Meyers said later, before showing the audience this clip. “I’m sorry, do you think Biden is on drugs?” he asked. “You’re sniffing like you’ve just walked out of the bathroom in Studio 54.”
“So Trump wants you to believe Joe Biden is the one in cognitive decline, and when Trump defended his lie that the coronavirus would just magically go away, he tried to claim that we would reach herd immunity soon “Meyers continued, a lie and also incredibly dangerous without a vaccine. Besides, he couldn’t remember the term. ”
After the moderator played the president’s clip in which he spoke about the importance of the “herd mentality”, he joked, “If that’s the case, Trump supporters are probably already cured.”
“He wanted to say herd immunity, but couldn’t remember it,” said Meyers. “You know, if Joe Biden is really taking a magical drug that gives him clarity, then maybe you should try a little too. I mean how much worse could it make you? Every time you do one of those crazy interviews, you sound like you’ve just sniffed asbestos. ”
