It's hard for a free-text editor to do much better than Google Docs. You can update your resume, work on paper, or even write articles (like this one) directly in your web browser.
With Google Drive, you can access all of your documents from any computer or mobile device you sign on to your Google Account. This makes working in the cloud a tempting opportunity. You can put what you do on your work PC and pick it up at home later, or make quick changes to your phone. As long as you have an internet connection, it is very convenient. The friction comes when you lose your connection.
You may not have Internet access but still need to edit a document. If you get on a plane or the Internet goes down, all your work remains painfully inaccessible. Fortunately, you can do it in a few quick steps, so you can continue to use Google Docs and still be able to access all your files, even when you're offline.
How to Configure Google Docs for Offline Work. The same instructions apply to Google Slides and Google Sheets.
Setting up Google Docs offline on your PC
The offline Docs feature only works in Google's own browser. If you're using Firefox, Safari, Edge, or another browser, download and install Chrome .
Sign in to your Google Account.
Everything you do in Google's world is linked to your Google Account, and Docs is no different. Sign in to Chrome in your account after you install the browser.
Download Google Docs Offline Extension
Chrome allows you to install browser extensions that add new features and enhance the overall experience. For offline access this extension lets you use Google Docs, Sheets, and Sheets even if you lose access to the Internet.
Enable offline access
Open Google Docs and sign in to Google if you have not already. Click on the Hamburger menu in the upper left corner of the screen (), select Settings and enable the Offline Switcher.
Once you have done this, you can continue to edit and save your documents as soon as you lose access to the Internet. Google also downloads some of the latest files so you can edit them if you have not already opened them. For older files, however, you must first download them.

Enabling offline access for Docs is a little easier on your mobile devices.
Download Apps You Need
Google offers separate apps for Google Drive, Docs, Slides and Sheets for iOS and Android. Download the files you need to the phones and tablets you use when you're offline.
Make current files available offline
In the Drive app of your choice, tap the top left corner of the Hamburger menu ( ), tap Settings and enable the option "Make current files available online".
If you enable the above switch, it will apply to every account on your device. But you have to do this for every app. If necessary, repeat these steps for the Sheets and Sheets applications.
The mobile apps automatically detect which files you use frequently, and keep a local file available for copying so you can work offline. However, if you need to make sure that certain files are available, follow the steps in the next section.
Making certain files available offline
By default, Google tries to save disk space by storing only local copies of the files you are using. Recently edited on your device. However, you have some options to make sure that certain files are always available. On your laptop, you can download Google Drive Backup and Sync to keep a local copy of all files or only specific folders on the desktop. This will cause Drive to work like Dropbox.
