If you can not imagine a way to respond with words in Messenger, emojis and stickers are just what you need. Since Facebook is just the "likes" that use a thumbs-up icon, there is a link to the icon to the right of the chat box. It's always there to send a quick response to something. But it does not have to be the usual Facebook thumbs-up sign ̵
Well, almost every emoji. The Messenger app only offers popular emojis that can replace the thumb-up link, but there are still many options. Tears of joy in the face, clinking beer mugs, face screaming in fear, they're all here, and you can use the web version of Messenger or Facebook to add missing ones.
Before you proceed, how to change the icon It is important to know that the icon can only be changed thread by thread. There is no way to change this for all threads at the same time. In addition, anyone in the thread can change the icon. So if you change it, someone can change it directly or into another emoji.
Method 1: Change the emoji in the messenger app.
Open a chat thread to start. Your current default emoji is located on the far right of the toolbar. If you or your friend have never changed this option, it will become the default Facebook thumbs-up icon.
Next, tap the name of your friend or group at the top. On Android, you can also tap the Info (i) button. On the following page, tap "Emoji." Here you will find all emojis that you can set as default on Facebook. Tap one of these options to set a new default emoji, or touch (x) to cancel. Once you've made your choice, your new emoji will appear in the "Emoji" preferences bar. Tap the "Back" button to return to your chat.
Back in your chat, your new default emoji appears in the menu bar. You also see the change in the conversation itself as "You have set the emoji to [the emoji you picked] Change ." If you want to quickly change the emoji again, tap " Change ". You will see the same emoji selection as before, this time directly in the chat. Just tap the emoji you want to change or the (x) to cancel.
You just have to enjoy! Just remember – your friends have the same options, so your chosen emoji will only stay as long as they allow.

Method 3: Modify the Emoji in the Messenger Web App
Currently, you can only access more emoji to set as the default for the chat through the Messenger web app. Although you still can not find every emoji, the selection is considerably more extensive than with the mobile app. And if you change it in the web app, it also changes in the messenger app and other ways to chat.
First, load messenger.com in a browser on your phone, and then request the desktop site. The process of requesting the desktop version of a website varies from browser to browser. Here are some examples:
- Chrome (Android / iOS): Tap the ellipsis and then tap "Request Desktop Site" or "Desktop Site."
- DuckDuckGo (Android / iOS): Tap Ellipsis, then "Request Desktop Site" or "Desktop Site."
- Firefox (Android / iOS): Tap the ellipsis, then "Request desktop site."
- Microsoft Edge (Android / iOS): Tap the ellipsis, then tap Show Desktop Site.
- Safari (iOS): Hold down the Reload button and tap Request Desktop Site.
- Samsung Internet (Android): Tap the three-line icon and then tap "Desktop Version."
- Gate (Android): Tap the ellipsis and then tap "Request Desktop Site."
Sign in to the Messenger web app and open a chat. Next, make sure the Info (i) button is pressed in the top right corner and select "Change emoji".
Here you will find a similar selection window as on the mobile phone. Since Desktop Messenger has enhanced the Emoji options, you will find various tabs for sorting emoji: Recommended, Facebook Defaults, Smileys and People, Animals and Nature, Food and Drink, Activities, Travel and Places, Objects and Icons. Tap one of these categories, then tap the desired emoji. Messenger will then set it as default.
Unlike mobile devices, the Chat itself does not provide an option to change the emoji via a status update. You must repeat the steps above to change the emoji again.
If you or your friend change this emoji, you can use one of the methods described in this article to change it again, but only methods 3 and 4 will give you more emojis to choose from. If you select a messenger web app exclusive or a facebook web app exclusive emoji, it will appear as a selected emoji on other platforms, but not as an actual option that you can select in method 1 or 2.
These steps work the same for the Messenger web app on a computer. Using a smartphone for the web app can be problematic in some browsers. Therefore, you may need to jump to a computer to select a web app-exclusive emoji.
Method 4: Change the Emoji in the Facebook Web App If you prefer to chat with your friends through the Facebook web app, you do not have to feel excluded from the party , While this method is undoubtedly the easiest on a computer, it is possible on mobile devices.
You must first request the desktop site (see Method 3 above), and even then it may not work. You know that when your phone displays Facebook as it appears on your computer, you understand. If you see a mobile site, you'll have to try again or try another browser, because in mobile-only chats you can only use the default Facebook thumbs-up icon and can not change it. Sick of Thumbs Up?
