Skype tired? How to delete your account using your Android or iPhone device «Smartphones :: Gadget Hacks



There are a number of reasons why you want to delete your Skype account. You may have decided to leave the app in favor of another service, such as WhatsApp or FaceTime, or you may wish to delete your account due to an online hack. Regardless of why you want to delete your Skype account, this is not as easy as it appears.

With Skype, you can easily delete your account from your smartphone or computer. This will also completely erase your Microsoft account account and related services such as Xbox, Outlook, OneDrive, etc. Of course, this can be problematic if you rely on them for emails and games.

Closing Your Skype Account (and Microsoft Account)

To close your Skype account once and for all, you must first open an account, then tap on your avatar at the top of the "Chats" page and click "Settings" as soon as you're on your profile overview page. Select "Account & Profile" and click "Close Account".

You will then be redirected to a Microsoft site, entering your password and a numeric passcode, sent either by text or e-mail. You will be prompted with continue the deletion process. Also, remember to be prompted for a confirmation PIN every time you switch pages when using an Android device.

After confirmation, you should now be directed to deleting the Microsoft account. Read the text carefully and click "Next" at the bottom of the page to continue. Review the text on the "Mark for closing" page, but this time, tap the boxes next to each section once you've read it to confirm the Microsoft services you no longer have access to to have.

Select a reason for deleting your account from the box at the bottom of the page, then tap "Mark Account for Closure" to confirm the deletion. Microsoft then plans to permanently delete your account exactly 60 days after you marked it for closure.

Reopening your Skype (and Microsoft) account

If you want to reopen your Skype and Microsoft accounts at any time Before the 60-day window appears, you can do so easily by logging in with Re-register your old credentials. From there you will be prompted by Microsoft to enter the phone number or email address associated with your account, and then enter a verification code to be sent by text or e-mail.

Your account will then be restored immediately with all data related to your Skype account and other Microsoft accounts.
