Some Windows 10 users are in S-mode

  Surface Go device

In Windows 1

0 S-mode, you can not install software from outside the store or even modify Edge's default search engine. If you bought a Surface Go this week, you were probably caught in S-mode.

This issue affects people buying a Surface Go, a Surface Laptop, or any other S-mode device. You should be able to leave the S-mode for free. Microsoft originally planned to charge $ 100 for leaving S-mode. The option to exit S-mode is included in the Store app.

However, the S-mode exiting feature in the Store app has been unavailable for three days. As a thread in the Microsoft Answers forum describes, users see blank gray screens in the Store app when they try to exit S-mode.

Obviously, this is pretty bad: people who bought a Surface Go or other S-mode PC earlier this week could not completely abandon S-mode and the software they want to use is the whole Week over on your device install. As for Windows errors, being trapped in S-mode is pretty bad, which can make a person's new hardware completely useless. How many Surface Gos were returned to the stores this week?

It seems that this can somehow be circumvented: A forum poster claims that he phoned Microsoft support for two hours, which finally fixed the problem. Some say that you can leave S-mode when you reset your PC and use the store quickly. However, if the store app updates itself, the S-mode exit feature is disabled again. Microsoft needs to fix the problem.

Thanks to Woody Leonhard of AskWoody and Barb Bowman for recognizing this problem.
