SSDI and Stimulus Checks: What You Should Know

If I get SSDI, will I qualify for a second stimulus exam?

It is likely that a second check, if approved, will arrive the same as the first, however possibly fasterbecause the IRS has already set up the payment system.

What if I didn’t file a tax return in 2018 or 2019?

If you’re receiving federal benefits including SSDI, you didn’t have to file a federal income tax return in 2018 or 2019. Under CARES law, you were still eligible for a stimulus check and should have automatically received one (no filing required, simple tax return as the IRS originally said).

What if I haven’t received a stimulus check for the first round yet?

If you’re using SSDI but haven’t received a stimulus check the first round, the IRS may need more information about your eligibility. To get your money, you must provide the IRS with your information by October 15th using their non-filtering tool.

The agency will ask for your name, postal address, date of birth, company security number, bank account number (if any), personal identification number (IP-PIN) for identity protection, driver’s license or government issued ID (if any). You can submit this information online using the non-filtering tool. (Important reservation: If you filed a tax refund for 2019, even if you weren’t required to, don’t use this tool – it will only slow down the processing of your tax return and any refunds.)

What if I hadn’t received an initial incentive payment for my loved ones?

Under the CARES Act, Qualified Individuals with dependents aged 16 or under were entitled to up to $ 500 per dependent. But Not everyone with eligible loved ones actually received this extra cash. The last day you could claim and receive your missing payment this year was September 30th. If you missed the deadline, you will need to claim the payment as a credit on your 2020 income tax return in 2021.

How to use the non-filtering tool to conduct your stimulus testing

What to expect when using the IRS non-filtering tool: Create an account with your email address and phone number, as well as a user ID and password. You will be taken to a screen where you can enter your registration status (single or marriage submission) and your personal details. There is a check box to see if someone else can claim you or your spouse as a dependent. Then you can enter your bank details (if you don’t want or don’t have a bank, the IRS will send you a check in the mail). You will be taken to another screen where you can enter more personal information to verify your identity.

When will my own missing payment arrive?

If your payment was not received the first round but you register with the Nonfilers tool by October 15, you will receive payment by the end of 2020, according to the IRS.

When will my missing payment for relatives arrive?

If you completed the Nonfilers Tool between May 5 and August 15, the IRS will automatically issue the catch-up payment to your loved ones in October. When you received yours original stimulus money through direct deposityou will receive the catch-up payment in the same way. Others will get it in the mail.

If you registered your missing dependent funds by September 30th, payment should be received by the end of 2020 in the same way that you received your first payment (likely direct deposit or mail).

Use the IRS Get My Payment tool to check the status of your or your loved one’s payment. You should also receive an email notification letting you know that an additional $ 500 has been spent per Qualifying Child.

What if I am on the SSDI program but live outside of the US?

If you are a Social Security beneficiary with a foreign address whose monthly benefit is paid into a foreign bank account, you will receive your business stimulus payment by check in the mail (the IRS does not deposit money with foreign banks). The IRS planned to send these checks out in late July. If you live overseas but receive your monthly benefits through a US bank, you should also have received your payment by direct deposit into this account by the end of July.
