Learn how to use the new Alexa features announced by Alex. Note that some of them won’t be available until later this year.
Interact with Alexa without saying the wake word every time
Alexa wasn’t always known to be talkative. Having to say “Alexa” all the time for every single task – even seconds apart – can be frustrating. Fortunately, the voice assistant is getting an upgrade called Natural Turn-Taking, which allows you to interact with Alexa without saying the wake word every five seconds.
You can activate Alexa’s conversation mode by saying “Alexa, join our conversation”. Multiple people can interact with the voice assistant without saying the wake-up word. You can even pause. Amazon showed an example of two people who ordered a pizza and spoke to Alexa about the size of the pizza to be ordered.
Teach Alexa new tricks
In a moment, you will be able to teach Alexa with a new feature called Interactive Teaching. If Alexa isn’t sure what to ask of him, he will ask you questions to learn what to do.
For example, if you tell Alexa to put the living room light on unfold mode it says, “I don’t know what unfold mode is. Can you teach me that?” You can then tell the voice assistant that the unfold mode means dimming the lights. The next time you ask Alexa to complete the task, she will remember what to do.
Alexa can delete all voice interactions
Last year Amazon added a setting that lets you. This year, Amazon announced that you can now delete any interaction with Alexa with just one command. To do this, just say, “Alexa, delete everything I ever said.”
Previously, you had to delete all conversations with the voice assistant by going to the privacy settings of the Alexa app.
Alexa can help you review your privacy settings
Not sure where to find Alexa privacy settings? Alexa can help now. Just ask: “Alexa, how do I check my privacy settings?” Alexa then sends a link to the Alexa app that says Check your privacy settings.
Tapping the link will take you to the Alexa privacy page, where you can make changes to your voice history, detected sounds, smart home devices, skill permissions, and Alexa data.
Along with these new Alexa features, the company also previewed its new line of products, one for in your home and with animal motifs.
