Amazon regularly adds new features Echo devices and Alexa Voice Assistant to make your life easier. The latest ones include Alexa paying for your gas so you don’t have to swipe your card, and calling your emergency contact in case you can’t make it to your phone.

Pay for your gasoline with Alexa

Did you forget to get your card before you left the house? Starting Tuesday, you can use Alexa to pay for your gas at more than 11,000 Exxon and Mobil stations.

Amazon Pay processes the transactions so you can use the same standard payment method that you use for your Amazon account. To get started, simply say “Alexa, pay for gas” and follow the on-screen instructions to activate the pump. Payment is processed after you finish pumping gas.

You can use the new feature in the Alexa app or on Alexa-enabled devices like the Echo carThis is a $ 35 device that snaps into your car and connects to your phone’s cellular data. When using your phone, the Alexa app must be open.

Call your emergency contact

Amazon added a new security feature that allows Alexa to call your emergency contact and send a text message when you say, “Alexa, call for help.”

To set up the new feature, open the Alexa app and select Communicate and tap the contact icon in the top right corner. Scroll through your contact list and select a person. Tap Add as an emergency contactand select OK.

Alexa will reach out to your emergency contact at any time if someone in your household asks Alexa to call for help. Note that your emergency contact must have a US phone number and their phone must be on.

Emergency calls are available on all Alexa-enabled home devices that support Alexa calling, e.g. Amazon Echo 2019, Echo dot and Echo show.

Pandora podcasts are now ready to be listened to on your Amazon Echo device. To listen to your favorite Pandora podcast, just say, “Alexa, play [podcast name] Podcast on Pandora. “

Less loud announcements and group drop-ins

With the Voice Focus feature, Amazon has improved the way you send announcements and switch groups. The update is designed to attenuate annoying background noises such as noises outside or the barking of dogs. You don’t have to do anything for this to work. It is automatically part of the Voice Focus update.

School is different this year, but Alexa can help you keep track of upcoming assignments and due dates using skills from Canvas, Infinite Campus, Coursera, and others. You need to find out what skills your school is using and enable them in the Alexa app.
