When the OnePlus 7T hit the streets, we called it the best value for smartphones at the time. The company is back with a successor, the OnePlus 8T, with a new quad camera system that charges incredibly quickly ̵
One of the biggest disappointments for the OnePlus 7T is the sub-par camera performance, and the company seems to be trying to fix that this time around. The OnePlus 8T uses a new quad camera system that is somewhat inspired by its older sibling, the OnePlus 8 Pro.
First up is a 48-megapixel main shooter paired with a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens. OnePlus has also used special macro and monochrome lenses to round out the quad array. As with the OnePlus 8 Pro, there is a hole-punch selfie camera on the front.
Hardware is only half the battle though, so we reserve the right to judge the phone’s camera capability as to when we can test. However, OnePlus is working on improving its camera software. Now it will automatically detect low light situations and activate the NightScape mode for you.
The OnePlus 8T also increases the refresh rate from 90 Hz in the 7T to 120 Hz. OnePlus calls it a 120 Hz Fluid AMOLED display and claims it is the first “flat 120 Hz display ever made by DisplayMate with an A + was rated “.
You also get the latest and greatest software right away. The OnePlus 8T is the first global smartphone that was not made by Google and comes on the market with Android 11. As always, OnePlus has optimized Android 11 and calls its taste OxygenOS 11
However, one of the standout features isn’t about how you use your phone. That’s because OnePlus took over its proprietary fast charging system and made it even faster. With the new Warp Charge 65 system, according to OnePlus, you can get a “full day charge” (almost 60% charge) in just 15 minutes. If you need a full phone charge, it will take about 39 minutes.
This despite a battery capacity of 4,500 mAh. The company achieved this by splitting its battery into two series-connected 2250 mAh batteries and creating a two-battery charging system. Both batteries are charged at the same time. According to OnePlus, the battery holds 80% of its capacity even after 800 charging cycles.
If you charge this fast, it usually creates a lot of extra heat, but OnePlus says that has been figured out and your phone should stay at “comfortable levels”. In particular, the OnePlus uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor, 12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and supports 5G and Wi-Fi 6. This makes the phone almost future-proof. What you don’t get is wireless charging or an IP rating.
Despite all the camera lenses and the large battery, the OnePlus is incredibly thin and light. At the thinnest point it is only 8.4 millimeters. And it only weighs 88 grams. For comparison: The OnePlus 8 Pro weighs 199 grams, making the 8T less than half the weight.
You can pre-order the OnePlus 8T today for $ 749. It will be released on October 23rd. You can choose between two colors: Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver.
