As the list of available mobile apps for moviegoers is constantly expanding and improving, it has never been better to watch a movie in your local theater. With the right apps for your iPhone or Android phone, you can research movies, find out if shows are sold out, reserve seats, save money and tickets, pre-order popcorn and soda and even find boring bathroom scenes. Updating the Movie Buzz Update
Staying up-to-date If you're not a spontaneous person, you probably want to know which movies are being played before you go to the theater. Instead of browsing through a sea of search results on Google, try out an app that provides the movie information you want to know. The following three services are useful here:
The Internet Movie Database or IMDb is a must for any movie fan. In essence, it is the encyclopedia of films. Everything you want to know about a specific title can be found in the IMDb. Would you like to know what will be played next weekend? Done. Would you like to know who directed Infinity War ? IMDb will tell you along with everyone who worked on the movie.
IMDb is a fantastic resource for past films, but it's just as good to keep up with what's new in Hollywood. The database publishes industry news daily, including new and upcoming films, developments for future projects, and information about actors, directors, and other film crews.
- Install IMDb Movies & TV: Android (Free) | iOS (free)
The app offers ratings and reviews of films from both professional critics and IMDb members, trailers for upcoming titles, worth knowing for any movie, including whether a movie has an end or not, and Links to buy tickets at your local theater.
If you're signed in to your account, you can get movie suggestions based on your interests and ratings, create customizable movie lists that can be either private or public, and receive notifications about movie ticket sales and release dates on your watch list. It is the dream of the self-proclaimed film fan. The only thing missing is message boards, also known as user discussions, which were removed in early 2017 despite pushback from the community.
Also, Amazon has been obsessed with IMDb since the late '90s, so if you feel too sick to make a movie, it's easy to tell if Amazon has an older movie you're renting, buying, or buying Watch free streaming of your Prime membership.
. 2 Rotten Tomatoes (Flixster)
Rotten Tomatoes is a great tool to understand how critics and fans alike react to the thousands of films that appear every year. Like IMDb, it's a great source for the latest movie news, trailers, cast and crew. The main attraction for "Rotten Tomatoes" is not in the movie details, but rather in reviews.
The site's biggest draw is the "Tomatometer," which potentially takes hundreds of reviews from critics and reduces positive ratings to a total percentage of up to 100 percent. If at least 60% of the ratings of a particular movie are positive, this is called "fresh." If not, it is branded as "rotting". The Tomatometer is so important in today's film culture that a film that receives the coveted "Certified Fresh" exam from Rotten Tomatoes is usually advertised by its studio as such.
There is no actual "Rotten Tomatoes" app for smartphones, but it is integrated into the app for Flixster. Formerly a social movie site, Flixster has since become a place to watch movie trailers and buy tickets from its parent company Fandango. Best of all, it contains the Tomatometer and links to reviews by critics.
- Install Flixster with Rotten Tomatoes: Android (free) | iOS (free)
While the app proudly includes the Tomatometer, you will not find another "Rotten Tomatoes" bracket, the "consensus". For films that receive enough reviews, Rotten Tomatoes writes a brief consensus based on the trends in the multitude of reviews. This information can be a quick way to determine your interest in a movie, so it's not too bad for Rotten Tomatoes to include it in their app.
However, the app does contain the "audience value," which, however, may be helpful in estimating the general opinion of the audience over that of critics. A popcorn bucket icon appears when 60 percent of users rate a movie 3.5 out of 5 or more. If the 60 percent of users fall below the threshold of 3.5, a green bucket of popcorn is displayed instead.
. 3 Variety
If you're just up to date from Hollywood, visit Variety, a weekly entertainment magazine with a news site and a mobile app. Variety is one of the few movie news releases that has its own app where you can find the latest news about upcoming theater projects.
Keep up-to-date with creating a movie from start to finish. See who's rumored to be part of a film crew officially cast in roles, who's scheduled as a director, when the actual photography is done and, of course, when the movie is to be released.
Apart from the details above, variety is another place to find professional reviews for the movies you want to see. In addition, there are even in-depth analyzes and insights from the industry.
It's 2018 – who pays even more for individual films? Well, many of us do, but we do not have to. It is the age of subscriptions, and cinemas are no exception.
There are two categories of cinema programs. one of a theater itself only for films in its locations and one of a foreign company, which is acceptable at most theatrical sites. Although there are not many plans at the moment, you can expect more in the future as competition between theaters and third parties grows harder.
We will not elaborate on how MoviePass was so great before, but only the details of MoviePass at the moment. Overall, this is an unpredictable service for most users, while others still succeed in making the most of it.
MoviePass only has a plan for $ 9.95 a month (better plans will come in 2019). This allows you to see three 2D movies every month, but only from a preselected list of allowed movies per day. The available seasons for these films can usually only be purchased in the morning in the theaters, as afternoon and evening seasons are often removed when the money runs out for the day. Bonus movies that are not on the preselected list may appear occasionally, but are more indie films in very few cinemas.
For the lucky few who live near cinemas related to MoviePass partners, all films available in the theater may be seen, and there are no restrictions on the seasons. They are called e-ticketing theaters and reservations are made through the MoviePass app, sometimes with a handling fee and sometimes without.
If you come to a theater in the morning or live near an e-ticketing theater, MoviePass could be a bargain for you. For those of you who do not have MoviePass affiliates near you, and if you do not usually manage to buy tickets for the day, MoviePass may not be worth the frustration.
For a complete overview of MoviePass and all its features and fine print, as well as more information about the items in the table above, see our overview of the service.
. 2 Sinemia
Overall, you pay for what you pay for Sinemia. This is a jump better than you can say for MoviePass. There are no random seasons, and that's the best thing about this option.
Sinemia is now running a Christmas sale with plans ranging from $ 4.99 to $ 29.99. Usually, these plans run from $ 12.99 to $ 89.99. However, before the holiday sale, there was an autumn sale offering similar discounts. One can therefore assume that Sinemia often deviates from the original offer price. If you only want to watch movies Monday through Thursday, you'll get a 20 percent discount off the monthly fee.
Depending on your chosen plan, you can watch up to 1, 2, 3, or 30 movies per month. And best of all, you decide when you want to watch a movie. When and where there are no restrictions.
Sinema does not charge any convenience fees, but does charge processing fees for all "Advanced Ticket" jobs, ie when you book tickets and pay online. When choosing the monthly plan, there is also an entry fee, which you can avoid by annual payment. Sinemia does not offer any discounts or points, but from time to time offers food vouchers.
With Sinemia, you may not get discounts for additional tickets, but you'll get family plans galore. Every normal plan has a corresponding family plan where you can choose from 2-6 members. You and all family members can enjoy Sinemia in all the major theaters in the country, including premium theaters, IMAX, 3D and all new releases, according to plan.
There may be too many options, but Sinemia MoviePass should only be sustainable. Take a look at the different price points and see if you need something for your film.
For a complete overview of Sinemia and all its features and fine print, as well as more information about the elements in the table above, see our overview of the service here.
. 3 AMC Stubs A-List
The best in-movie subscription is AMC Stubs A-List, a direct response to MoviePass's # 1 lead-to-gold subscription model. Today, this is one of the best plans you can get while staying near an AMC theater.
The plan costs $ 19.95 plus taxes for all (15 states will get a higher price in January) and you get three movies a week for a total of 12 movies a month. While 2D movies are obviously accessible, most premium formats except IMAX VR and special events are available.
Tickets can be reserved in advance for a total of three reservations at any time. You can book the screenings on the same day and in the future either in the app, on the website or in your local AMC theater. There are also a few small perks as well as a reward program to earn money that is used for concessions, with points from concessions, monthly plan fees and additional tickets.
For a complete overview of the AMC Stubs A list and all of its features and fine print, as well as more information about the items in the table above, see our overview of the service.
. 4 Cinemark Movie Club
Although Cinemark was not as big a theater chain as AMC, [Cinemark] first threw his hat in the subscription ring. And although there are not so many theaters, there is a chance that there is no AMC nearby, there will be a cinemark. The service of the theater is a bit modest with only one 2D movie per month for a monthly fee of $ 8.99. However, these tickets are taken so that you can earn 12 free movies a year in Cinemark's services, no matter what.
You decide when to watch your movie with Cinemark. There is free online ordering, no introductory fee and concessions discounts when you visit the theater. You also earn points with movies you watch, which you can redeem like rewards for AMC.
Bring your friends! While there are no family plans, Cinemark offers subscribers discounts for $ 8.99, the price of monthly subscriptions. Cinemark has 337 locations in the US, so you can live very well within a reasonable distance of a location.
This service is not perfect because only 2D movies are compatible with your monthly free ticket. Keep in mind that Cinemark will be charged extra for premium theaters, as well as IMAX and 3D shows. Frugle film fans should consider again whether the desired Showtime is a regular 2D movie with no frills.
A complete overview of the Cinemark Movie Club with all its features and the fine feel, plus more information on the items in the spreadsheet Read our overview of the service above.
Let's assume you are not a subscriber. You may not want to commit to multiple movies every month. Instead, you just want to make the trip to the theater when a movie appears that you want to see. What is the best way to secure these tickets, especially if the film in question is a popular choice? This is where movie tickets come into play for the purchase of movie tickets.
There are two categories of ticket purchasing services. one from a theater itself only for movies at its sites and one from a third party company that sells tickets to most theaters in the US. Over the years there have been many, but we are only interested in the best of the best.
Fandango is about as old as the idea of buying movie tickets online. While the service started exclusively on desktop computers, Fandango's App, along with a free Fandango VIP membership, provides users with easy access to the latest movies.
Avid moviegoers know that the most popular flicks are filling up fast. That's why you want to know ASAP when tickets are sold so as not to miss the opening weekend. Fandango sends personalized notifications to your phone so you never miss a publication, a trailer, or anything related to your expected movies.
The service also accepts refunds until showtime. If something happens a minute before the scheduled start of the movie, that's no problem. You can also use the app with compatible theater memberships so you can earn loyalty points for your local theater while using Fandango. You can also reserve seats in the cinemas where necessary.
Fandango occasionally offers its users free movies, but does not let you order tickets for free. No matter where in the US you live, the tickets cost $ 1.70. You will not offset these costs with a discount as Fandango does not offer ticket discount days unlike many cinemas. Look for the theaters in your area to benefit from such an offer.
There is a separate reward program called VIP +, which gives you 125 points for each ticket purchased. Once you've reached 500, you'll receive a $ 5 reward that can be used to stream movies and TV shows, or more movie tickets. The premiums expire after 21 days of the exhibition.
In terms of security, Android and iOS apps support face and fingerprint biometric authentication for accessing settings and purchasing tickets.
Some disadvantages? Fandango displays ads in its app and does not offer you a birthday reward. However, it is a great solution for moviegoers for all the reasons mentioned above. In addition, Fandango occasionally runs sweepstakes, giving users the chance to win great prizes.
. 2 Atom Tickets
Atom sends you notifications that remind you when tickets for a particular movie are live, when a new trailer is released, and just general movie news. Although your reimbursement policy is not as generous as Fandango, Atom lets you cancel your tickets up to 30 minutes before the show time.
Like Fandango, you can also add your memberships to other theaters, so you do not have to miss anything when it comes to points, benefits, and rewards that you would otherwise receive when purchasing tickets at these theaters. There will also be free movies waiting for you – when you sign up for a free Atom Rewards account, you will receive a free ticket for every four you purchase.
There's no free online order, but your convenience fee depends on your location In many areas, the fee is $ 1.35, while in select areas such as NYC, it's $ 1.50 , You can not find discount ticket days through Atom and no birthday reward.
However, these problems quickly disappear as Atom allows you to reserve concessions. You do not have to spend time on the snack line – just order in advance. If you can not decide between Fandango and Atom, just ask yourself how often you buy snacks in the theater.
There are no ads in Atom's app, but you can not use face or fingerprint authentication to secure it. However, Atom Fandango's leadership follows and hosts occasional sweepstakes.
. 3 AMC Stubs Insider
Not to be confused with AMC Stubs A-List, AMC Stubs Insider is AMC's free membership. If you do not receive free movies for the week or the month, signing up for AMC Stubs will give you some benefits that you would not otherwise get from buying tickets yourself.
The AMC app gives you personalized notifications about upcoming movies that interest you. Like Fandango, you can get full refunds until Showtime, and while you can only use membership with AMC cinemas, both Fandango and Atom support the AMC integration.
Any ticket you buy through AMC, as well as any concessions, will earn you points that you can redeem for rewards (20 points for every $ 1 spent). Once you have reached 5,000 points, you will receive a reward of $ 5. If you are alone, you will not be able to make a free online order, but tickets will be purchased in groups of four or more, and AMC waives its convenience fee of $ 1.65 to $ 1.75.
If you want to save some money, buy your tickets on Tuesday. AMC grants discounts to many of its theaters every Tuesday. 2D tickets cost only $ 5. The discount may vary in your local theater. So check with them to find out what you can get.
Do not forget to announce your birthday to AMC because the theater offers birthday bonuses to users. You'll also find pre-orders for concessions at the participating theaters, and thankfully the app will not show ads. With Touch ID / Face ID authentication, you can prevent others from buying tickets in your app (the Android app does not yet support biometrics), and you can take your chance to win with AMC sweepstakes.
The AMC offers a paid version of this membership for $ 15 a year. For this small donation, AMC raises free popcorn and beverage size upgrades, free online orders, theater priority strips and more points per purchase (100 vs. 20).
. 4 Regal Crown Club
If your region is better served by Regal than by AMC, check out our free Regal Club membership. You will not receive personalized notifications for new movies. However, you can request a refund for tickets that you would like to cancel. You have to cancel at least 60 minutes before Showtime, a bit more stringent than any of the other options in this list.
Just like AMC, the Regal App allows you to buy only Regal tickets, but you'll have to find some funny benefits in it. Regal will occasionally throw a free movie in your direction, and you'll earn points when you buy tickets with your Regal account. However, to buy tickets online, you must pay the $ 1.35-1.50 comfort fee. However, these costs can be offset by shelf discount days. These discounts vary from theater to theater. Information can be found in your local theater.
Regal offers its users a birthday reward, but no pre-booking for concessions. There are no ads in the app shelf. However, you can not protect your account with face or fingerprint authentication. If you participate in a raffle from Regal, you may be distracted from this omission.
. 5 Cinemark Connections
If Cinemark – or one of the theaters under its roof – is the theater of your choice, you should sign up for an account Cinemark Connections. You will not receive personalized notifications in the app, but you can request a refund for tickets until the show time. You can only watch movies in a cinema cinema because you can not buy tickets for other theaters through the Cinemark app.
Like AMC and Regal, Cinemark customers receive both points and concessions. For each transaction you receive 25 points for a maximum of 25 in 24 hours. They also have occasional access to free movies, but do not see the same treatment when ordering online – each ticket carries a $ 1.50 fee. However, at selected theaters, there are discount days, so you can cancel the convenience fee on your Theatertag.
There are no birthday rewards with Cinemark or concession pre-orders, but there are no ads in the Cinemark app. You can also use the face or fingerprint authentication against the world to block the app and enter the recurring competitions of Cinemark.
If Cinemark is just your local theater, there's no reason to drop potential benefits.
Ways How To Save Money On Movie Tickets
As we've seen above, cinema ticket discounts vary not only per theater chain but also at individual theaters. If you do not want to wait for a cheap ticket from AMC by Tuesday or your local theater does not even offer discounted tickets, read the following tips:
- T-Mobile Tuesdays: T-Mobile customers get free each Tuesday Stuff. Sometimes they are movie tickets, so keep your eyes peeled.
- Groupon: Install on the App Store or Google Play to find coupons for your local theater.
- Costco and Sam's Club: Check out these wholesale clubs for packages of discounted movie tickets. Just make sure that the tickets you buy are compatible with your local theater.
- Honey: Browser extension that allows discounts to be found throughout the Internet while you check out.
- Regal !: Regal sells its own discounted tickets, $ 9 each. You can also buy these tickets in packages.
- Other: Some colleges and employers offer perks like reduced movie tickets. Inquire at your company or at your school.
In the theater and during the film
Once you have found your discount, bought a ticket and caught your snacks, push yourself into your seat and enhance your theater experience from the beginning with the following apps to finish: 1. Talk to Augmented Reality
Before the movie starts, take part in Noovie, the pre-movie content that plays before the trailers start. Noovie has an augmented reality app from Wreck-It Ralph that you can play right from your seat. Create the Pancake Milkshake Café scene from the trailer of the movie right on your iPhone or Android device. There are also AR games that you can play as well. It gives you a reason to go to the theater early.
- Install Noovie ARcade: Android (free) | iOS (free)
2. Do not let a phone call ruin the movie
You also do not want to be pestered with text, phone calls, emails, etc. while watching your movie, and the rest of the theater is not. To avoid distractions, use the Do Not Disturb feature on your phone. If you are using an iPhone with iOS 12, you have some options for setting up DND (see below). Android users may have similar features based on their device model and software.
Go ahead and order the big cherry coke. Thanks to RunPee, you do not have to worry about having to leave the theater during an important scene to use the bathroom. The app finds the best three spots during a movie to leave them to the bathroom, and gently hums you during each movie to give you the chance to go. (DND may not be helpful here.)
If you decide to leave, you can read a summary of the missing information. When you come back, you'll be up to date and comfortable with completing the movie. RunPee adds new movies every week and even gives you tips if there are scenes where the loan can end (do not look at the third picture to avoid the smallest "The Grinch" spoilers.) You can do some shopping received for free with ads. There's even IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes integration so you can find out about the movies you'll miss in 2-3 minutes.
If you're having trouble going through an entire movie without a toilet, RunPee may be the best app you'll ever use.
