The best power adapters and chargers for your iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max «iOS & iPhone :: Gadget Hacks

The iPhone 12, 12 Mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max have positive coverage in terms of the updated design, camera upgrades, and 5G connectivity. One negative press you might have seen is about the charger. In particular, that there is a Lightning-to-USB-C cable in the scope of delivery, but no power supply unit. That said, you need a charger and we have some great recommendations for you.

Apple’s argument for leaving a power adapter out of the new 2020 iPhone models is that it’s greener. Omitting the power adapter and EarPods means less packaging material for the box and less waste. This also means that more products can be shipped at the same time, which reduces CO2 emissions in the “global logistics chain”

;.

According to Apple, there are over two billion Apple-branded power supplies worldwide, and you probably have one of them. That number, however, likely includes chargers for Mac computers, Apple Watches, and other Apple products – not just iPhones. Since a Lightning to USB-C cable is included, you can only take advantage of the faster charging speeds if you have a USB-C power adapter.

If you have a newer MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, iMac Pro, Mac mini, or Mac Pro, you can use your computer’s USB-C port to charge your iPhone in late 2020. If you have an iPad or Mac, or an iPhone 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max, you may already have a USB-C charging stick, such as B. Apple’s 18W, 20W, 29W, 30W, 61W, 87W, or 96W power supplies will work with your cord. And if you have a third-party USB-C power adapter or Qi wireless charger, this will work too.

However, if you don’t have a wireless charger or USB-C ports to turn on your new iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, or 12 Pro Max, you’ll need to get one. And that’s another source of income for Apple, but there are plenty of good third-party options out there. Even if you have something USB-C compatible, you should consider one of the options below. You may need fast charging capabilities, whether wired or wireless, or just a more portable option.

Option 1: Apple MagSafe charger (the coolest)

Let’s just come out and say it: Apple’s MagSafe charger is cool. Just like the MacBook chargers of the same name, MagSafe chargers can be easily installed and removed from the back of your device. You can conveniently charge wirelessly, but with a more secure connection. No more waking up to see that your iPhone wasn’t charged overnight because you left it straight a hair shy of the sweet spot.

What’s even better is that the MagSafe charger will quickly charge your new iPhone with up to 15 watts. Compare that with all Qi chargers on the market that, despite the specified number, have a maximum charging speed of 7.5 watts for iPhone models. However, since the power adapter is not included, you’ll need to purchase the MagSafe charger and 20 watt USB-C power adapter from Apple (see next option).

Currently, Apple’s MagSafe charger is the only one on the market. As with all Apple accessories, however, third-party options are in the works. If you’re not looking to spend $ 39 on a MagSafe charger, then look for possible cheaper options.

Option 2: Apple 20W USB-C power adapter (the fastest)

One advantage of USB-C is that it charges quickly. We’re talking from 0% to 50% in about 30 minutes. The thing is, any old power adapter won’t work here – you need something with enough power to allow your iPhone to charge really quickly.

Before October 2020, the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max were equipped with an 18-watt USB-C power adapter that was powerful enough for quick charging. If you have one of these, you’re good. If not, the company has increased its fast-charging USB-C iPhone power adapter to 20 watts. How could you say no to two extra watts?

If you want to use the MagSafe charger above, you will also have to pay for it to plug the MagSafe into an electrical outlet. However, other USB-C power adapters may work.

Option 3: Anker Nano 20 W USB-C charger (smaller form factor)

If you’re looking for something other than Apple’s 20 watt power adapter, consider an Anker charger. The nano power supply offers the same 20 watts of power as Apple’s, but in a smaller form factor. Apple hasn’t released the official specs for its 20-watt model, but if we look at the 18-watt option, we see that Anker’s is much more compact at 1.81 “by 1.08″ by 1.08 ” than Apple’s 2.64 inches by 1.26 inches by 3.27 inches.

Option 4: AmazonBasics 30W USB-C Charger (High Power Value)

The above chargers will turn on your new iPhone with no problem, but what about the other USB-C devices in your life? If you want something that can even charge a MacBook Air, check out Amazon’s 30-watt USB-C charger.

The Amazon adapter gives you an additional ten watts of power for just $ 6.99 more than the Apple charger. That $ 6.99 probably won’t charge your iPhone any faster, but it will charge something like a laptop much faster. Of course, you can plug a 20 watt charger into your MacBook Pro, but it takes one Long Time to get 100% performance.

We’re not saying 30 watts is perfect for a MacBook too, but if you’re looking for an affordable option to charge most USB-C devices, this might be your best bet. Amazon also sells a 65-watt model.

Option 5: AI Aikenuo 48W 4-port fast charger (for versatility)

Maybe you’re not just looking for a USB-C power adapter that will work well with all of your devices. Maybe you are looking for something that will charge all of your devices at once. Then consider this four port charger from AI Aikenuo that offers two USB-C ports and two USB-A 3.0 ports.

Charge your iPhone and MacBook via the USB-C ports and an Apple Watch and a Bluetooth mouse via the other ports, which can each provide up to 18 watts. It’s the perfect option for anyone who has a mix of old and new charging technologies in their life (which probably most of us are).

Option 6: Anker PowerWave stand (for charging)

If you are in the market for a traditional qi charger, know that there are several styles to choose from. The first is a wireless charging stand – a stand is a convenient way to view your iPhone while it is charging. This is a great option if you are at your desk and want to see updates on your iPhone, or if you like to fall asleep and watch videos.

Belkin is actually bringing out one that works with MagSafe and can charge your Apple Watch and AirPods at the same time. Until then, we recommend this popular PowerWave charging stand from Anker. It’s only 7.5 watts, but that’s the maximum that an iPhone can charge with a supported Qi charger. Unlike most other PowerWave chargers, this model comes with a power adapter so you don’t have to worry about purchasing one of these separately.

Option 7: Yootech Wireless Charging Pad (for flat charging)

The other option for Qi chargers is a pad. Wireless charging pads are ideal for anyone who wants to put their iPhone next to them on the couch or by the bed. They’re not great for content watching, but they do provide the ability to interact with your iPhone as it’s effectively on the table.

Our recommendation? This charger from Yootech. It’s available in three different colors (black / black, black / blue, black / red), although you won’t see the color much with your iPhone resting on it! It also supports the faster charging speeds of 7.5 watts which are a must or just not worth it for any wireless charger. However, since it doesn’t come with a power adapter, you’ll need one of the USB-C power adapters above to connect it.
