Given the American love affair with the humble apple, it would be easy to assume that America was a land of apples apple varieties from the beginning. However, the truth is that all the wonderful apple varieties we find in the supermarket, fresh from our local orchards, are highly cultivated varieties that bear little resemblance to the apples originally found in America.
Before The Europeans introduced different varieties, and hundreds of years of cultivation ensured the distribution of the apple varieties that we enjoy today. In America, there was only one apple variety: the tiny, sour and woody apple.
