ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – – TO UPDATE: The Orange County CARES Act portal reopened at 8 a.m. on Monday and closed about 45 minutes later.
PREVIOUS STORY: Orange County residents can apply for financial assistance on Monday as the county reopens its CARES Act portal for the sixth time.
Mayor Jerry Demings discussed the reopening during a press conference on Friday.
“With the news of so many permanent layoffs from various companies here in our community that you announced this week, we know our families are in need of crisis relief,”

Demings announced that the portal will accept applications from Monday. This is the sixth time the portal has been opened since it launched in June. Orange County households are eligible for a one-time payment of $ 1,000 to cover expenses.
“We will open our portal next Monday, October 12th, at 8:00 am. The second date we have chosen at this time is Saturday, October 24th, at 8:00 am,” he said.
The decision to reopen the portal comes because the county will have $ 56 million in federal funding before the end of the year, according to Demings.
Demings said the county has so far spent $ 30 million and helped 30,000 households. He hopes to help thousands more with these final rounds of financial assistance.
“Our plan is to open the portal to 10,000 different households every time we open it,” said Demings.
The county launched the portal this summer and it got off to a rocky start, reaching capacity within minutes of each opening.
With two additional opportunities for support, Demings wanted to make it clear who is eligible to apply.
“If you have received funding from these efforts in the past, you are not eligible this time. We want to help as many different households in our community as possible, ”he said.
The mayor also indicated that the portal could be reopened.
“There will likely be one or more additional dates in the future. We’ll see how these two dates go, ”said Demings.
