It's the (unfortunate) nature of the tech beast: hardware manufacturers finally stop supporting older models.
Case Study:Earlier this week, Apple announced ̵
Fortunately, this does not mean that your first-generation wearable – also known as the Apple Watch Series 0 – suddenly ceases to tell or notify (at least for now). It simply means that it gets stuck with WatchOS 4, now and forever.
If you think of a novel Apple Watch model (or maybe even another watch), you probably want to sell your current model. So do that, starting with the most important step of everything.
Disconnect and reset the watch
Before you sell it, you must disconnect it from your iPhone. This process creates a backup that is useful if you migrate to a newer Apple Watch, delete it, and restore the factory default settings.
Step 1: Open the Apple Watch app and tap [Your name] 's Apple Watch .
Step 2: Tap the info icon (the little "i") and then tap Detach Apple Watch . Confirm the action and wait a few minutes for the process to complete.
That's it! They are done. Now is the time to sell this old watch.
Option 1: Sell it Yourself
If you sell your Apple Watch yourself, you usually get the most profit, but it takes some initiative and more risk.
Craigslist is a risky option for buyers and sellers. Sellers risk wasting time on flakes or being robbed while shoppers risk being cheated (). However, you will receive cash for your device and you can set your price without worrying about additional fees.
For a smooth Craigslist transaction, you should first work out all the details. Your buyer should know the specifications, price, and health of your Apple Watch before the meeting takes place. You should always meet in a.
While eBay often needs a bit more work than Craigslist, it's definitely safer – and often more profitable, because you have a much larger pool of potential buyers. Also, because eBay offers extremely robust protection for buyers, people are more willing to buy expensive items from strangers.
The downside is, as always, the fees: eBay accepts 10 percent of the final value (for what your item sells) and PayPal charges a fee of 30 cents plus 2.9 percent (4 percent on international sales) of the final value.
How much can you expect for your first generation Apple Watch? That depends on factors such as size (42mm or 38mm), color, condition, bundled accessories and so on.
I reviewed recent sales of first-generation models Apple Watch Sport and found that they had landed somewhere between $ 90 and $ 150 – surprisingly well, as Walmart sold the Apple Watch Series 1 ($ 233.80 on Amazon.com) new for $ 149. Of course, their mileage can vary, especially because more people want to sell their outdated models.
Swappa is a user-to-user marketplace for used technologies – things like phones, tablets and smartwatches. It only allows lists of work tools in good condition (no broken glass or water damage).
Unlike eBay, Swappa charges a flat rate of $ 10 per item sold. This fee is credited to the sales price – so the buyer pays, not the seller. However, Swappa makes payments through PayPal, so you still incur the PayPal fee of 30 cents plus 2.9 percent (4 percent if sold internationally) of the price your item sells for.
In this letter, Swappa recommended listing a first-generation Apple Watch Sport for $ 145 (plus a $ 10 fee, or $ 155 for customers). The lowest competing price from another seller was $ 130. Assuming that Swappa is able to deliver a buyer, that's a pretty good return on a device that's probably a few years old.
Option 2: Trade it in
Trading your Apple Watch is easier and less risky than the sale itself, but usually less profitable. However, you get the guarantee of cold, hard money to pay attention to when you are in a hurry.
Different trade-in sites offer different amounts depending on size, color and quantity. Therefore, it is worthwhile to get several quotes to see who offers the most money.
For example, Maxback is a trade-in site that you pay by check or PayPal. It accepts your Apple Watch, even if it is not in perfect condition (though of course you will receive less if that is the case). But you must include all the accessories: charging cable, AC adapter and so on.
In this letter, a first-generation Apple Watch in "good" condition (as defined by Maxback upon receipt) would earn you $ 79. However, if it's just "fair," that means you have deep scratches or scratches
Nextworth is a similar trade-in site that accepts Apple Watches, but my bid for an Apple Watch Sport 42mm first generation was only $ 27 – though it's in very good condition is. Even Apple's own repurchase program offered me only $ 25, in the form of an Apple Store credit. Best Buy Offer: A much better $ 63, but also in the form of an e-gift card.
What's your plan for your first generation? To keep? Selling it
