If your apps take too much time, you can outsource self-discipline. Focus Mode is a new feature that was announced in May that pushes aside distracting apps – maybe Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram for you – while mentally addressing what you need to do by choosing one Apply Timer This will prevent you from accessing specific apps for a set amount of time. When the time runs out, Google turns off the app.

Focus mode is Google's newest feature to promote digital health. It builds on the Wind Down mode, part of Android's Digital Wellbeing feature that turns the screen into grayscale when you plan it for a night or turn it on manually. The idea is to make the screen less appealing while counteracting the blue light that is thought to disturb sleep patterns and keep you awake longer.

Google believes that app timers, such as those in focus mode, help users avoid 90% over-use of apps. You can choose which apps you want to pause, such as Facebook and Instagram, which interrupt you with notifications. However, you can also leave some messaging apps open for emergencies.

It is available for the beta of Android 10 (formerly Android Q) . However, if you do not see it yet, you may need to upgrade to the latest version. ( How to Get Android 10 .)
