Sometimes, mouse and keyboard play just does not cut it. You need the convenience of a controller to enjoy certain games. Fortunately, you can use a number of controllers on your Mac, including your Xbox One controller.
While PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 can play smoothly with your Mac over Bluetooth, the Xbox One controller takes a little more effort. There is nothing too tricky and you can be patient with it.
To connect your Xbox One Controller to your Mac
You should get a Micro USB cable to connect your Xbox One or Xbox 360 Controller is enabled because Bluetooth is not available. Fortunately, there is still a way to get things going. It requires a bit more cunning from your side, but it's nothing you can not handle.
First go to GitHub and download the latest version of 360Controller. The screen should look like this:
Next, you should open the DMG file and double-click the Install360Controller.pkg file to get things started.
This will bring you to the "Default Install" screen. Click on "Install". A dialog box appears, indicating that you must restart your computer before the installation is complete. Make sure you have saved any files that you do not want to lose track of because your computer will restart immediately after the installation is complete.
If you're in the installer, it's pretty self-explanatory that it's complete. Just press "Next" until the course has expired.
You will be asked at one point to agree to the product license. Select "Agree" to go to the next screen. Continue from there until you finish the installation.
When you finish the installation, you will be asked to restart your Mac. You should have saved everything and closed programs accordingly. If you have not done so, accept the Save prompts now while the computer restarts. When you are back in business, you should set off.
Now open the Apple menu and click on the "System Preferences" command.
There should now be a small "Xbox 360 Controller" icon at the bottom of the window. Double-click on it.
Do not worry about that name "Xbox 360 Controller" means – it also supports Xbox One controllers, and it will display a screen that looks like this.
You can now connect your Xbox One controller via micro USB and then move the keys to Now you just have to load your favorite game with controller support and have fun!
