For some, the volume control of the Galaxy Note 9 does not have enough levels between loud and maximum volume. We all have different volume settings, and a higher number of steps would equal a more accurate volume control. Good that we can adjust this at least for the media volume.
Samsung has developed an app that allows Galaxy Note 9 users to adjust the number of media volume steps. With this app you can increase the number of steps up to ten times the standard action. While most never take so many steps, there is an area where you can get the right amount.
Step 1: Install SoundAssistant
You need the SoundAssistant app developed by Samsung to get started. The app is free and available in the Google Play Store.
This app only increases the number of media volume volume levels, not the ringtone. You can switch the controls so that the media volume is controlled by default using the following link:
Open SoundAssistant and choose Advanced Settings. You'll see an option called "Change Step Volume" with a slider below. Before you set this slider, let me explain how it works.
Imagine that your media volume ranges from 0 at the lowest setting to 150 at the highest setting. By default, the slider is set to ten, so each press is in increments of 10, so you must press the volume rocker 15 times to switch from mute to maximum volume. For example, if you set this slider to 1, you must press the rocker 150 times to cycle through the entire color space. So it's very likely that you want something between 10 and 1 – for example, if you set the slider to 5, you get 30 steps.
If you're still confused, here's a little cheat sheet that tells you How many steps you get for each shot on the slider in SoundAssistant.
- 150 steps
- 75 levels
- 50 levels
- 38 levels
- 30 levels
- 25 levels
- 21 levels
- 19 levels
- 17 levels
- 15 levels
SoundAssistant has many other tools that let you manage the volume of your Galaxy Note 9 audio. You can control the volume for specific apps, adjust the sound at different times of the day, and simultaneously play audio from two different sources. How many volume steps do you prefer?
