What Apple Says
According to Apple, the Apple Card is maintained as follows:
- Whatever you keep for your Apple Card, make sure it's made of a soft material.
- Keep your Apple Card on card for yourself without other credit cards in the same slot. This could scratch the card.
- Do not store the Apple Card near magnets (it could demagnetize the magnetic strip).
- Do not store the card in a loose bag with coins, keys, etc. Some fabrics, such as leather and jeans, can cause permanent discoloration that can not be washed off.
Most of these tips are common on credit cards, but the Apple Card seems to require a slightly gentler approach.
How to Clean the Card
Apple recommends using a soft microfibre cloth moistened to wipe the card, followed by another microfiber cloth with isopropyl alcohol to remove dirt or debris.
You should not use window or household cleaners or aggressive chemicals such as aerosol sprays, solvents or ammonia. Apple also explicitly mentions compressed air as something you should not use, but the Apple Card has no moving parts, so you should be fine.
If you have a leather wallet or routinely carry your Apple Card in your jeans pocket, your Apple Card will discolour over time and cleaning will not help. If you do not have to worry about where to keep the card, or if you want to spot occasional scratches, you can also put a skin on it.
Dbrand, a company specializing in skins for our expensive gadgets, now supports the Apple Card. It costs $ 5 per page, with the option to mix and match colors and patterns to your liking. A matte black Apple Card would look pretty cute.
