President Trump let everyone know how he views NBC News’ Kristen Welker – the scheduled host for the upcoming presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee – who she described as “terrible and unfair” in an offensive attack prior to the debate on Saturday.
“It’s always been horrible and unfair, like most fake news reporters, but I’ll play the game anyway. People know! How is Steve Scully? “Trump tweeted along with a retweet from son Donald Trump Jr., who linked Welker and her family with prominent Democrats.
Welker’s family has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Democrats over the years, and Welker and her family spent Christmas at the White House with the Obamas in 201
DEBATE MODERATOR KRISTEN WELKER’S TWITTER ACCOUNT DISABLED WITH STEVE SCULLY CONTROVERSY
Trump’s Steve Scully comment referred to a C-SPAN journalist who was suspended for allegedly lying that his Twitter account had been hacked before moderating a planned Trump-Biden debate in Miami on October 15 should that was eventually canceled.
Scully had posted a tweet that some critics viewed as biased against Trump as to whether Scully should respond to the president’s criticism of him.
Before joining C-SPAN, Scully was an intern at Biden and worked for the late Democratic US Senator Ted Kennedy.
Welker briefly deactivated her Twitter account after Scully claimed he was hacked.
KRISTEN WELKER, COMING PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE MODERATOR, HAS DEEP DEMOCRAT TIES
Trump has frequent issues with interviewers and presenters, including Fox News’s Chris Wallace, who hosted the first debate on September 29 in Cleveland, and NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, the Trump’s City Hall host, which aired in lieu of the canceled Miami debate .
The president accused both of them of being unfair to him.
“Anyone who has ever looked at Welker knows that she is an activist, not a reporter,” a senior White House official told the New York Post.

Conversely, Trump 2020 senior advisor Jason Miller, host of “The Story” Martha McCollum, said last week that he thought Welker was doing an “excellent job.”
“I have a very high opinion of Kristen Welker,” he said. “I think she will do an excellent job as moderator for the third debate. I think she is a journalist who is very fair in her approach and I think she will be a very good choice for this third debate. “
