Conor McGregor is back this weekend. After the defeat against Khabib Nurmagemedov in October 2018 – in a rivalry that often went into strange, racially charged areas – McGregor returns to the octagon at UFC 246 against the multi-year fan favorite Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. The press conference is over, both fighters have now gained weight . Now there is only the fight itself.

And love or hate it, there is nothing better than a Conor McGregor fight. The structure, the media, the interviews – McGregor has the opportunity to raise the stakes of every single competition in which he participates to an absolute fever. This time he's testing his unique high-pressure / counter-strike style against Donald Cerrone, a fighter who is also known to be involved in entertaining fights. The turn? The fight is welterweight (170 pounds), not featherweight (145), where McGregor made his reputation, or lightweight (155), where McGregor was once a champion. The welterweight gives Cerrone, who was very successful at 170, a significant size advantage over McGregor.

In short, this is not a refresher fight. It's a fascinating match that most expect from McGregor, but this is MMA and anything can happen.

Press Conference

The press conference has come and gone, but you can watch the replay here. It was a relatively tame thing compared to previous McGregor press events, but there was gold here and there.

It's an interesting dynamic. Conor is clearly on the repayment tour and Cerrone just seems happy to be there.
