Since it is neither practical nor easy to train the United States Space Force̵
The US Space Force hired Slingshot Aerospace to create the virtual reality sim and will partner with The Third Floor, a VFX company that has worked on space-themed Hollywood blockbusters such as The Mandalorian and Heaviness.
The partners have received $ 2 million to date, including $ 1 million from ATX Venture Partners and a $ 1 million contract from the US Space Force. The goal is to create a simulator that service members and even students and professionals can use to understand how spacecraft and other objects work in space, regardless of their level of education.
“Space operators need to understand complex concepts like astrodynamics, the effects of various elements in orbit, and maneuvering spacecraft between other subjects in space. All of these require more adaptive, interactive, and tailored teaching tools than what we are currently using.” said Col. Max Lantz, commander of the US Air Force’s National Security Space Institute, in an earlier press release. “Creating an immersive environment to promote a better understanding of these fundamental theories will be critical to supporting the Space Force.”
