Use WhatsApp's four-way calls for group video and audio chats «Smartphones :: Gadget Hacks

WhatsApp continues to be one of the most popular messaging apps in the world, but you could only make calls with a friend or video chat at the same time. To group audio or video chat, you would need to use a different app, but that's no longer the case. Announced on July 30, 2018, WhatsApp now offers the ability to group audio or video calls with up to three other users on Android and iOS.

To make sure you can use group calls, update your WhatsApp Messenger app for Android or iPhone. Always up to date is always a good idea for bug fixes and security patches, as well as new features.

Unfortunately, you can not start a group video or audio call from a regular group chat, nor can you start a group call from the Calls screen. You need to start a call first with a friend and then work from there.

Tap either the New Call button (top right for iOS, bottom right for Android) on the Calls tab, or open a regular chat with the person you want to call. Next, tap either the Phone (Audio Call) or Camera (Video Call) icon next to the contact to start ringing. Then wait for the friend's answer.

Once your friend has accepted the video or audio call, each of you can add one or two more friends to the chat.

Just tap the top of the contact plus icon – right corner of the call. Next, select a friend from your list of contacts to add to the call. Just tap "Add," and WhatsApp will share the screen as it calls your friend.

Do not worry if you ambush over group calls. When you're added to an audio or video call, you'll see how many people you want to call, not just an invite from the person who added you. It's a nice touch WhatsApps to keep people up to date about what type of calls they might accept – or not –
