Toaster ovens are good at breakfast, but they can do so much more. Not just frozen snack warmer, these appliances are essentially countertop mini-ovens. They may be small, but they are nimble, versatile and surprisingly capable. Toaster ovens preheat much faster than their larger counterparts and usually do not make your kitchen so hot (great for hot summer days). Some models can also roast in the air thanks to extreme convection.
This allows you to bake delicious pizzas. They also roast vegetables until they are nice and crispy. Toaster ovens can also handle meat and sausage. And when your sweet tooth gets up, put some cookies in it. It is a sensible alternative to baking a full-size batch.
Of course, toaster ovens have limitations. If you want to make hot food quickly, your microwave is still the right choice. And nothing can speed up longer cooking times like an instant pot. That does not mean that you should limit yourself to fish fingers and chicken nuggets. This guide suggests items that you might not have considered a toaster oven. But after you've tried them, I bet you'll wonder why you did not do it before.

Let's talk about the basics first. In addition to breakfast toast, bagels and sandwiches, toaster ovens are usually assigned to heat frozen snacks. These range from frozen pizza to chicken nuggets to spring rolls and mozzarella pies.
Roast your vegetables
Dinner is removed in half an hour, and you would love to serve a side of vegetables with the entree. Your toaster oven can help. Prepare the vegetables you have, but in a smaller frying pan. Many countertop ovens have their own pan accessories directly in the packaging.

I love these vegetables, although I realize that some do not share my enthusiasm. Roasted and minimally flavored, however, they are fantastic. To achieve this, it took only 16 minutes at 230 degrees Celsius plus a short 5 minute preheat.
My sprouts came out as I like them; crispy and nicely browned, but slightly soft on the inside. For a slightly tougher bite, try taking it out a minute or two early.
I admit, potatoes are more starch than healthy vegetables. However, if you cook them in your toaster oven, they will taste so good that you do not mind. Inspired by ToasterOvenLove, I washed and brushed two large russet potatoes. And while that was going on, the toaster oven was preheating to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 Celsius). Next, I gave my spuds a layer of olive oil and a pinch of salt and black pepper.
After pounding both on both sides with a knife, I toasted for 50 minutes. Then I gently removed them, sliced them open and gave them a quick flare. Finally, I added a piece of butter and shredded Cheddar for decadence. The result was fabulous. The skin of my potatoes was crispy, while their inner light was fluffy and yet very satisfying.
If you're in a hurry, sit by the microwave to get help. I was able to shorten the roast time to just 20 minutes. All it took was a 6 minute prebake nuclear missile.
Sometimes nothing else hits the spot like a bladder. If the urge persists, take the help of your toaster oven. It is also no cooking necessary. I have just put my pack of smoked cheddar sausage, fresh and sourced from Kroger, on a frying pan.
It only took five minutes to preheat the Breville Smart Oven ($ 180 at Amazon.com) to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Fahrenheit). Thirty minutes later my sausages were cooked through. I recommend to roast them for 5 to 10 minutes longer if you prefer crunched caramelized cases.
Use also some caution. These compounds tend to squirt juice when they heat up. Be prepared to turn off the stove at the first sign of smoke, or worse, fire.
I do not suggest that you cook racks of pork ribs completely in a toaster oven. That would take 5 to 8 hours. Instead, prepare it first in your instant pot. Hit it with some seasoning (salt, pepper, seasoning). Next, they are lit in Saute mode. Then you cook them under pressure. Thirty minutes is a nice ball park figure for baby back racks. Stronger shelves in the style of St. Louis take 45 to 60 minutes. Do not wait for the pressure to relieve of course.
Take the ribs out of the pot as fast as possible. Next, dab them quickly with paper towels and give them a barbecue sauce. The plan is to finish them in the toaster. I've gone all the way on the Smart Oven (full convection, 580 degrees Fahrenheit or 300 Celsius). Ten minutes later, I had baby spines that were moist, tender, and sticky with caramelized sauce.
No, they were not flavored by the ambrosia of real wood smoke. But to enjoy the ribs so well, and in just over an hour (1 hour, 14 minutes) I take it.
Biscuits and Treats
Next time you crave something sweet, use your toaster instead of the normal household to bake small portions of biscuits, brownies, and other goodies. The tidying up will be quicker, and you will not have many tempting sweets going around taunting you.
When baking in the toaster, there are three things to keep in mind. First, you will see parchment paper (often used to bake biscuits) on most parcels to avoid using it in the toaster. There is a greater risk that the paper comes into contact with the heating element and ignites. If you decide to put parchment in your toaster oven, you should be aware of the danger.
Second, many glass bowls (like Pyrex) should not go in the toaster. Pyrex points this out on his website. So if you bake brownies or cakes in the toaster oven, stick with a metal pan. Third, because baking requires more accurate temperatures than roasting, you want to check that your toaster oven is at the right temperature.
You can use an oven thermometer to get accurate temperatures or experiment with a range of cookies. If you go with the cookie route, try using a slightly higher temperature or slightly longer cooking times than the recipe requires, until you get the result you want.
Other pizza and fries
Cold pizza being tapped in the microwave is a damp mess. A similar fate awaits leftover French fries that breathe you. Avoid this sad situation with the toaster.
Outside a deep-fryer, no worktop stove can refresh these foods. The oven heats up items while restoring the crispiness and crunching on the outside surfaces. Honestly, you will never go back to the microwave once you've tried it.
