If you've been looking for an alternative to Google Maps, you've come to the right place with Waze. In addition to benefits such as crowd-sourced traffic data, police traps and street work avoidance, you can even use the app to customize the voices used for navigation and directions.
Best of all, Waze's custom voice feature is incredibly easy to set, and it does not matter if you're using an iPhone or an Android device, because changing the navigation voice still works in the same way. In addition to male and female voices with different accents, different languages within the app can be set immediately. This eliminates the more time-consuming method of changing them through the main settings page of your device.
: Select a Different Voice
If you want to select a different voice and / or language, just open Waze and then tap the Speaker button in the lower-right corner of the screen to open the Sound Settings tab. call. At the bottom, tap "Voice prompts" to open the language selection page and select the language and voice that you feel most comfortable with.
You'll notice that some voices also verbalize street names, which is great bonus and ensures smooth navigation.
If you are adventurous, you can Waze even record your own voice. Just go to the "Sound Settings" page (see Method 1), but this time tap on "Record new voice".
Follow the instructions from there and read each direction loud and clear. When you're done recording, tap Save in the upper-right corner of the screen and set it as the default voice for navigation as described above.
