Although the films are produced in collaboration with Marvel, they are distributed by Sony Pictures and exist in a different world from the MCU. So do not expect your favorite MCU stars in Sony's world to play their roles.

The talk about a Venom movie goes back to 2007, when Topher Grace played Eddie Brock in a small role in Spider-Man 3. This particular film is in some form in work another since 2016, with Tom Hardy cast in May 2017.
