Apple first launched WatchOS 5 and iOS 1

2 in September, adding a new walkie-talkie mode, enhanced notifications, the podcasts app, and other welcome enhancements to the Apple Watch .

Last week, Apple has released WatchOS 5.1.2. This update includes an important feature for owners of the Apple Watch Series 4 – the ECG app . The app allows the watch to act as an electrocardiogram, abbreviated to the ECG by Apple, but doctors usually call it ECG. It allows users to monitor their heart rhythm with a more detailed method, and to refer the carrier to a doctor for possible medical problems, at least in the US. It is approved by the FDA.

CNET's Vanet Hand Orellana had a chance to try the app early and, surprisingly, she found something – her experience is worth reading, or you can see her video below.

You must update your watch to use the ECG app. The update process is simple but takes some time. Here's what you need to know.

So long, original Apple Watch

For the first time, Apple decides not to update all Apple Watch models. Only the original Apple Watch was omitted but this may be a frustrating omission – depending on how much you spent on your Apple Watch. Remember, there were models that cost $ 17,000. Ouch.

The models that WatchOS 5 will receive are:

The original Apple Watch did not have a serial number. If you're not sure which model you have, check the Apple FAQ page to find out what you're finding out.

Download Your Charger

Before You Upgrade Your Apple Watch, Update Your iPhone on iOS 12.1.1 . Otherwise, WatchOS 5.1.2 will not be displayed as an available update.

If your iPhone is running iOS 12.1.1, place your Apple Watch in the charger and make sure the charge is at least 50 percent. The clock must be charged for the duration of the update.

Also, your iPhone must be near the clock for the update process to work. You can not start the update on your phone and then leave it again, so be sure to schedule about 30 minutes.

update time!

If your phone is up to date and the watch is charging, open the Watch app on your iPhone. Scroll down and select General > Software Update .

After a few seconds your phone will find the update and show you a short description with a button . Download and install the update . Tap it and enter your passcode when prompted. You may also need to enter your passcode on the watch itself.

The update is downloaded and installed in the background. You can use your iPhone, but remember to stay near your Apple Watch so as not to interrupt the update.

During the update, your watch flashes and usually shows the Apple logo. You will receive a notification on your iPhone when the update is complete. Then you can remove the clock from the charger and use all the useful new features.
