Millions of phones are stolen every year and you may have one of them. But that does not have to be ̵

1; you can make your phone theft-proof! We will show you how and how you should proceed if your phone is stolen.

Enabling Remote Tracking

Remote tracking (called "Search my device" on Android and "Search my iPhone" on iOS) gives you the following: Possibility to track the location of a phone and its data remotely to delete. This means that you can find your phone if it is missing, or delete its data if it was stolen.

If you're using an Android phone, go to Settings, open the Google Options, scroll to Security, and turn on Find My Device. You can then track your phone on the Find Your Phone webpage or delete your data.

If you're using an iPhone, go to "Settings," tap your Apple ID (your name), click "iCloud Settings," and check "Search my iPhone." Now you can track or delete your phone from the iCloud website.

Use a strong password.

A complicated password for the lock screen can be annoying, but it's the best way to stop thieves from digging into your phone. Try to set a strong password on all your devices. Ideally, a password should contain uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols. (With the "How secure is my password?" Tool you can make sure you're using a non-crack password.)

If you do not want to Enter a complicated password each time you use your phone and enable biometric authentication. Face ID and iris or fingerprint scanning are great, secure options.

Mark notifications as private

If you are concerned that thieves read text messages and notifications on your lock screen, you can lock the contents of these notifications on the hide screen.

On an Android device, go to Settings, open Sound and Alerts, find the option "When the device is locked", and set it to "Hide Confidential Notification Content." If you click "Do not show notifications at all," no notifications will be displayed even if your phone is unlocked (which is not necessarily a bad thing).

On an iPhone, go to Settings, then open the Notifications menu "And click OK Tap the" Show Preview "option to hide or remove notification previews on the lock screen.

If you have an iPhone with Face ID, notifications on the lock screen will disappear until you see the" Show Preview "option Unlock phone by default to prevent a thief from seeing notifications with security codes without unlocking the phone.

Enabling cloud sync

If you care about the data on your phone, you should enable cloud sync Trust us – if you know that all your photos and contacts are in the cloud It is less scary to delete your phone remotely.

For Android phones, go to Settings, Accounts, and Backup and enable "Back up my data." This saves your contacts, credentials, and settings. Then download an app like Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Photos, or Amazon Photos to back up your documents, pictures, and videos. Phone settings and contacts are automatically synchronized with a new phone. You can access your photos and videos from your chosen cloud solution.

For iPhones, go to Settings, tap your Apple ID (your name), open the iCloud Settings, open iCloud Backup, and enable iCloud Backup If you get a new iPhone, you'll be asked if you want to restore settings, contacts, photos, and videos from iCloud a few hundred dollars. The transport insurance covers accidents, broken screens, dead batteries, and of course, lost or stolen phones However, you pay a deductible or stop repaying your original phone to get a replacement.

If you want insurance for the mobile service provider (this is not required, it is only helpful if you lose or break a phone), Contact your telephone service provider or visit the Verizon, Sprint or AT & T websites. If you own an iPhone, you should opt for App log in to leCare + (which now covers stolen iPhones).

However, there are a few additional steps you can take to prevent a thief from accessing your private files, contacts, photos, and accounts:

  • Track Your Phone : Go to the Find My Phone or iCloud website to find your phone. If it is near or in a local shop, check if you can find it.
  • If stolen, wipe it off. : There's no use fighting a gang of bad guys just to get your phone back. If you suspect it was stolen, erase the data.
  • Tell your wireless service provider that it was stolen : After deleting, contact your wireless service provider to report a theft. You can either look up your carrier's phone number or report it online at My Verizon or My Sprint (you must call AT & T – sorry!). This way, your SIM card is locked and can not be used on any other device. In addition, you can redeem any insurance from your carrier.
  • Check your accounts : Even if you have enabled two-factor authentication, you should check that no one has accessed your accounts. You may also want to change your passwords (especially for bank and e – mail accounts).
  • Call the police (possibly ). : If you're 100% sure your phone was stolen (as in), you saw it), go ahead and report it to the police. There is a big black market for stolen phones, and the thief might visit the area with the intention of stealing phones. Just know that you probably will not get your phone back, even if the thief gets caught.

If you're lucky, you'll never lose a cell phone, but you may lose it. Although the above steps seem a bit time consuming, they are not too much work. And it's worth protecting your privacy and security.
