Seven days later, Lunokohd 1 was successfully deployed on the Moon and spent the next 11 months sending reports – including soil sample analysis and photos – to Earth. The Rover relied on a solar cell array to work during the day, and when the sun went down to the moon and temperatures dropped to -300F, the little Rover stuck thanks to a radioactive heater operating on Polonium-210. Lunokhod 1 held the record for the longest functional Space Rover for more than 30 years, until it was dethroned by years of service records on the Mars Exploration Rover's Rover, Spirit and Opportunity missions.
When America finally put a rover on the moon, it was the case. It was one of the later Apollo missions and served as a lunar vehicle for the astronauts to navigate through the lunar landscape. NASA's NASA Reconnaissance Orbiter (NASA Reconnaissance Orbiter) high-resolution images make it possible to check the last resting places of several artificial objects on the moon. These include the Rover Lunokhod 1, the Apollo Rover and various lunar countries from Soviet and American lunar missions. And although the rover's main task has long since passed, the APOLLO team at the Apache Point Observatory (APLLO) at the University of California at San Diego is using the rover as a laser reflector to their great surprise. They found that the laser light reflected better than the reflectors placed on the moon.
