Response: Gangnam Style
In the summer of 2012, South Korean pop star Psy released his 18th single "Gangam Style". This particular song (and accompanying music video) combined a catchy tune, funny dance moves and exaggerated plays that quickly attracted not only fans in South Korea but, thanks to YouTube, hundreds of millions of international fans.
The chorus repeated title "Gangnam Style" is a Korean neologism that refers to the very affluent Gangnam district of Seoul, South Korea, and the clothing and behavior of humans. While neologism in American English does not have a perfect analogue, it would be like an American speaker saying "Hampton's Style" or "Beverly Hills Style" when referring to super-beautiful and wealthy things. The contents of the music video reflect this, with Psy dressed in formal clothes, dancing in a stable, and otherwise wearing things that showcase wealth.
