If your Nest Protect ($ 160 on Amazon) checks in with their app, you can use the app as a remote to mute alarms, check from home, and receive monthly summaries of its usage.
If you do not connect to the app, these things will not work. The worst thing is, you have to climb into a chair to stop the alarm instead of just pressing a button on your phone when you're burning something in the kitchen.
Follow these steps to reconnect your Nest Protect to make it work as it should.
Check your app
First, you should check if the app on your phone is outdated. Go to the Apple App Store or Google Play to make sure you do not need to upgrade to a newer version of the app. A quick fix may be enough to fix the problem.
Test Your Connection
Another reason why Protect may not work with the app is the fact that it is no longer connected to your router. There are some things you can check.
First try to reset your router. Disconnect the plug from the socket for 30 seconds and plug it in again. When your Wi-Fi is back online, go to the Nest app and touch Checkup . Make sure you are standing next to your Nest Protect and tap Next .
If it's still disconnected, your connection may be interfering. You may need to bring it closer to the router so the signal will not be disturbed.
Nest Protect also can not connect to 5 GHz networks. If you have a dual-band router, switch to the 2.4 GHz band. Go to Settings Tap your device and tap Remove Nest Protect . Then go to Settings > Add Product and follow the instructions on the screen. If you receive Wi-Fi Settings make sure you connect the device to the other network band.
If nothing else works, your router settings may be your problem. Nest Protect can not connect to a router with certain parental controls or routers with firewalls. Here is a list of Nest's recommended router settings that can help.
