Chrome 77 will be released on September 10 in the Stable channel for easy customization to Chrome. Forget downloading themes: With just a few clicks on the New Tab page, you can apply your favorite colors to Chrome's browser toolbars.
Background and theme controls on the New Tab Page
In older versions of Chrome, you can customize your New Tab page, but Chrome 77 has even more options. To find these options, click Customize in the lower-right corner of the New Tab page.
The Background section lets you choose a beautiful wallpaper or upload your own. There is a new Update Daily option that automatically changes the background of your new tab every day.
The Links section lets you choose which icons to display on the New Tab page: the sites you've selected or visited the most. You can also check "Hide links" to show no website links on this page.
The Color and Design section lets you create a custom browser theme. Choose a combination of two colors or use the color picker to choose your own colors. They are used for both the background of the new tab and the Chrome browser toolbar. Previously, a theme had to be installed from the Chrome Web Store.
Hiding the EV ad
<img class = "alignnone wp-image-439554 size-full" data-pagespeed-lazy-src = "https://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads /2019/09/img_5d7046124a828.png.pagespeed.ce.AprtDTPF_T.png "alt =" Compare EV ads in Chrome 76 and Chrome 77. The "Extended Validation" (EV) ad moves in Chrome. Currently Some sites have special Extended Validation certificates that Chrome and other browsers display differently, for example, if you go to paypal.com, the text "PayPal, Inc." appears to the left of the address of the site in Chrome's Omnibox. Chrome 77 no longer displays this extra text and you only see a lock icon and you can still see the company name for which the certificate was issued, but first click the lock icon.
Like Devon O & # 39; Brien explained by Google, the Chrome Security UX team has found that the EV user interface does not protect users as intended. "People do not seem to notice this function or make decisions differently if it exists. It can even be confusing and misleading company names. Apple already made this change to Safari in June 2018.
A new splash screen
If you install Chrome on a new system or just create it If you have a new user account in Chrome, a new splash screen will appear asking you to make Chrome your own account when you use the Open browser for the first time. This just replaces the New Tab page when you first open Chrome. So you can ignore it if you want. You can even access it anytime – just plug in
chrome: // welcome / to Chrome's Omnibox.
Go through the wizard, and Chrome prompts you to set shortcuts on your New Tab page. Choose a Set Chrome as your default browser.
Web site picker
Google continues to add new Web functionality to Chrome. These are not for you – they are for web developers who build websites. Many of these features will not be noticed until they appear on web pages. They make the web faster, more powerful and safer.
The new Contact Picker API is an example of a feature that makes the Web more powerful. A website queries your contacts, and Chrome lets you select contacts from the address book on your device that you want to give to the site. It is currently available in an "Origin trial", which means that only a handful of approved sites can test it.
This sounds only for phones, but it can also be used on the desktop. For example, the contact picker can retrieve contacts from the People app on Windows 10 or even from your Google contacts.
It's even more private than when you give an Android or iPhone app access to your contacts. Chrome sees all your contacts and gives you a list with them. However, only the contacts you select will be submitted to the site. The website does not show all your contacts.
Google Assistant on more Chromebooks
Google Assistant is expected to show more Chromebooks. Google Assistant first appeared on Chrome OS two years ago with the release of the Pixelbook. Google has tested whether the additional Chromebook Assistant can be activated. In fact, there's a hidden flag that activates an experimental Google Assistant feature for all Chromebooks in Chrome 76.
In Chrome 77, this flag is now enabled by default. Google Assistant should work on many other Chromebooks. However, 9to5Google notes that this Google Assistant flag is not yet enabled on all Chromebooks.
In both cases, Google Assistant will be turned on by default on many other Chrome OS 77 devices running Chrome OS 77.
Much of Google's work on every Chrome update is invisible. This will make Chrome and the web you use even better.
For example, Google has a new "Enter" attribute built into Chrome. In this way, a Web site can customize what action is displayed on the Enter key on a touch keyboard when a user interacts with the keyboard. For example, if you enter a message, you may see a Submit button. When you perform a search online, a search key may be displayed.
All technical details about Chrome 77 – except for the different behavior of PaymentRequest for web developers. Google limits Chrome's referrer headers to a maximum of 4 KB in size and more – see Google's Chromium blog.
Chrome installs the update automatically when it's available and prompts you to restart your browser. To speed up the search, you can manually search for an update by clicking Menu> Help> About Google Chrome.
