What to Know about Computer Freaks
Which web browser was the first to enable tabbed browsing?
Although the concept of GUI tabs has been around for decades (and introduced in 1982 with WordVision DOS by IBM in commercial products Word Processing), the first web browser with a tabbed interface, did not appear until the mid-1990s.
In 1994, BookLink Technologies released the InternetWorks web browser. The most notable feature of InternetWorks was a tabbed graphical user interface that placed tabs at the bottom of the browser window and maintained new browsing instances in the same application window.
While the interface has been copied from other browsers, including Internet Explorer add-ons. On tabbed NetCaptor and the IBrowse web browser, tabbed browsing did not prevail until the early 2000s, after modern browsers such as Opera and Mozilla Firefox took over the interface style.
