Why do you even have to log in to your home PC?

  Windows 10 login screen

Each time you turn on your computer, you must select a user account and log in. This applies to Windows, MacOS, Linux and even Chrome OS. For this reason, this is required for PCs, but not for iPhones, iPads and Android.

They were developed for multiple users.

Modern operating systems have been developed for multiple users. Even if you log in to your Windows laptop with only one user account at a time, Windows is designed for more. That is, the same operating system is used for the single person computer, a shared family PC, or an office workstation.

Various user accounts are continuously being used in the background. Most of the applications you use will run with the security settings of your user account. Some will run as an administrator and grant them full access to your system. You must agree that you grant the User Account Control (UAC) permission on Windows before you start it. Various background services and automated tasks run as different user accounts with different security settings.

Your password can also be used for background security. For example, FileVault encryption on macOS is enabled by default. This setting encrypts your Mac's files until you enter the password of your user account. Without the password, you can not unlock the hard disk and view the files. However, FileVault does not use a different password, just the regular password of your Mac.

iOS and Android also have user accounts

Multiple user accounts on an Android phone

Apple's iOS operating system and Google's Android are different. They should not be used by more than one person. First and foremost, they should be run on the phone or tablet of a single person. Under the hood, however, both Apple's iOS operating system and Google's Android operating system use user accounts.

Booting and unlocking an iPhone, iPad or Android device is like logging in to a modern PC. You start it and need to enter a passcode before the device can be unlocked and used. The only difference is that when you start your device, you generally can not select multiple user accounts.

These user accounts are sometimes displayed. For example, iPads have a multi-user mode that can only be used by schools. Android offers multi-user support for phones and tablets, although manufacturers like Samsung often remove this feature from their devices.

Even if you do not have access to these multiple users, they are used by the base OS for various tasks. Google's Android is based on Linux and Apple's iOS is also a Unix-like system based on BSD. Both are multi-user operating systems.

You can skip the registration, but you should not.

Enabling Automatic Login on Windows 10

You can log on to your computer automatically, but it's not the best idea. For example, you can automatically log in to your Windows PC, but the password will be stored on your computer so that all running programs can access it. On Macs, you can also enable automatic login. However, this requires disabling FileVault encryption because it requires the password.

If someone gets access to your computer, they can of course turn it on and use immediately. This is not very good if the computer is a laptop.

Faster and Easier Login

Even if you are the only user of your PC, you can easily ignore other user accounts with modern operating systems. Your computer automatically selects the user account you last used, and you only need to enter your password.

This can be annoying if you use a long and strong password to secure your Microsoft (Apple ID) account. or Google Account. With modern computers you can make it easier.

We recommend setting a PIN on Windows 10 or enabling Windows Hello for a faster login. Modern Macs feature TouchID fingerprint readers and can be unlocked with an Apple Watch for faster sign-in. You can set a PIN to sign in to your Chromebook, or unlock it automatically with your Android phone using Smart Lock.

After you configure these features, you can log in to your computer just as easily and quickly as you unlock your phone. [19659022]! Function (f, b, e, v, n, t, s)
