Why Google Recorder is a first-class app. Too bad it only works on pixel phones

  Pixel Recorder App-3

During recording, the audio wave is displayed along with the detected audio type.

After using Google's new Recorder app you'll never want to use another voice memo app again. It's true. Instead of recording the audio from a lecture or interview, as with any other app, Recorder records everything it hears in real time on the device without sending information to Google. In fact, it does not require a data connection at all.

You can view your transcription as you create it, or search the file again or share it with a classmate or colleague. Or if you do not have a pixel phone, but know someone who does, tell him about the app. It will not only help you, but it could also help you if you share the transcription with you to work together at work.

It's a shame that Google is currently restricting the Recorder app to its Pixel phones, but hopefully this will change in the near future. The good news, however, is that Google has made Recorder available for other Pixel phones beyond Pixel 4. This gives me the hope that the recorder app will be available in the future for other phones.

Need a Pixel Phone – For Now

Currently, the Recorder App is available for Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL pixels 3, pixels 3 XL pixels 3A pixels 3A XL Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL . In the past, Google has used its pixel line to test features before a wider version. We can only hope that recorder will eventually come to all Android devices.

Do you have one of these pixel phones? Download and install the recorder app from the Play Store.

After the recorder has been installed on your Pixel phone, use it like any other voice memo or memo app: open the app, tap the record button, and record it.

During recording, sound waves are scrolled across the screen. Below is the pause button along with an audio option (already selected) and a transcript option. When you tap Transcript, you can view the recording in real-time with punctuation.

Watching the app write whatever it hears can be helpful if you're listening to someone who speaks with an accent, or if you just want to check the spelling of a word while taking notes , It is fascinating to look at.

When you're done recording, tap the Pause button. You can then give the recording a title and a location and either continue or save it. There is also the possibility to delete it.

Reviewing and sharing your recordings

The best tip I can give you to review your recordings is to use the search tool. At the top of the main screen is a search box that, when used, searches all the recordings stored on your device, and then highlights each record and the specific section that uses that word or phrase.

It is extremely convenient if you are trying to find a specific topic from a lecture or a quote from an interview. It is also helpful if you (like me) do not have the habit of naming your recordings. But do not be like me. Get used to naming your recordings before you save them. It's a simple task that saves you time and headaches.

When you share a recording, you have the option to share only the audio, just the text file, or both. Of course, once you have released the recording, the receiver can not use the search functions nor access files on your computer. However, this is a convenient way to share content.

Using one of Google's Pixel Phones offers a number of benefits outside of the Recorder app. There is a live subtitle feature that is impressively cool . Google's Call Screen feature helps you manage incoming calls from lawyers or robocalls. If you're new to Pixel Pixels, thanks to Pixel 4, read through some of the best hidden features we could find .

The real-time transcript is the coolest feature for any voice memo app I've ever used.
