Windows 10 Home finally lets you stop the updates

Only Windows 10 Professional users can stop Windows updates today. This will change, however. Windows 10 Home users will soon be able to pause updates for up to seven days.

This feature should be available to all when the next version of Windows 1

0, codename 19H1, is completed. It should be published around April 2019. Paul Thurrott noticed this change for the first time, and Microsoft did not mention this in a blog post by Windows Insider.

Of course there is a limit: You can only pause updates for seven days a time. Just go to Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update. There is now the option "Stop updates for 7 days", and it works on Windows 10 Home.

Windows 10 does not install any updates while it is paused. However, if you suspend updates, either at the end of the seven days, or if you click the Continue Updates button, Windows immediately checks for updates and installs them.

This is not a way to permanently avoid updates. You can only avoid them for seven days and then have to update. However, this is still a huge improvement, and you can make Windows not burden you with updates for a while. If you are traveling or busy, you can get up to a week's upgrade. That's huge!

Windows 10 Professional users have even more control, including the ability to pause updates for up to 35 days, rather than just seven and other options to delay feature and quality updates. But even users of Windows 10 Home finally have more control over updates.
