Microsoft has released a semiannual release date for Windows 10 ($ 99 at Amazon.com) with major updates coming in the spring and fall. After the April 10, 2018, update this spring, Microsoft will release the next major feature update in the coming weeks – (aka Windows 10, version 1809).
I've been using a beta version of the Windows 10 October 2018 update, so things may change between the current release and the final release. Here are the biggest changes and the best new features for your PC. However, there is no need to wait; The impatient and the curious can instantly install the Windows 1
Clipboard History and Cloud Sync
The October 10, 2011 Windows 10 Update is designed to help you discover a fourth cut-and-paste shortcut. In addition to Ctrl-X, Ctrl-C, and Ctrl-V, you must incorporate Windows key + V into your workload. This is because the Windows 10 update from October 2018 improves the clipboard in two important ways. First, your cut and copied objects can now be saved so you can access more than just the latest ones. Second, you can sync your clipboard to other Windows devices. I'm not sure how useful the sync feature will be, but the history of the clipboard is fantastic right from the start. Press the Windows key and the V key to see the cache history where you can insert or pin or delete the items. Super useful.
To enable clipboard history and sync, go to Settings> System> Clipboard and enable Clipboard history and Device .
Dark mode for Microsoft apps
Similar toWindows 10 gets its own Dark mode with Windows 10 October 2018 update. You can blacklist Microsoft's apps, including File Explorer, Settings, and App Store. Go to Settings> Personalization> Colors scroll down and select Choose your default app mode select Dark . However, Edge does not have its own Dark Mode setting .
I have a non-contact Windows desktop, so the SwiftKey keyboard that comes to Windows does not create my own personal list, but it's probably the top for Windows touchscreen users. And it could soon lead to some.
New and (possibly) Enhanced Screening Tool
Windows 10 October 2018 Update provides a new way to take screenshots. Snipping Tool is off. Snip & Sketch is in. (Actually, the snipping tool is stuck for at least this next Windows version, but Microsoft is pushing the new Snip & Sketch utility.)
The new Snip & Sketch tool is easier to accomplish and makes it easier To share screenshots, but there are two important features that keep me on Team Snipping Tool. First, it does not provide a way to take a screenshot of a window (it only offers rectangle, free-form, and full-screen snips). On the other hand, there is no way to delay a screen capture. In addition to the old Windows key-Shift-S screenshot shortcut, there are two other ways to initiate screen capture: You can set the PntScn key to open the screen capture ( Settings> Usability> Keyboard ) and in Action Center you will find a new button Screen snip . Finally, the new Snip & Sketch tool automatically adds your screenshot to the clipboard, optimizing the screenshot process.
(Potentially) less annoying restarts for updates
The seemingly endless stream of Windows updates is an endless. Microsoft is trying to be less annoying with its updates and to alleviate your pain by better predicting when you'll be able to update to a specific date I will not fling your laptop through the next window. Windows will try to tell the difference between getting up from your desk for a few hours or the night versus having a coffee or a quick conversation with a colleague to try to get the best time to restart and update your PC I do not have any evidence that Microsoft's new predictive model works for scheduling updates, but I have no evidence to the contrary. Until now with the beta, my system has not updated against my will.
Your Phone App
The "Your Phone" app is now available on the App Store, but the October 10, 2018, Windows Update will be installed on your PC. Android users can view their smartphone photos on their PC and access them via drag-and-drop. No emails to yourself or a cloud service as a guide. Setup is confusing for Android users and very limited for those in the iPhone ($ 916 at Amazon Marketplace) camp at the moment. iPhone users can not access the photos on their smartphone. You can only send links from the Edge iOS app to open on your PC on Edge. You can also send a notification via a link to your PC, which I think could be a useful reminder. And the app promises that "additional features for the iPhone will be considered for future releases."
Separate Font Slider
Windows 10's scaling options are extremely useful for making text, icons, and apps easier to read on a high-resolution display. Scaling the size of the elements on your screen has allowed you to keep your ad in the native resolution where things look best, and also to be able to read text and identify symbols without squinting. Now you have even more control, because Windows 10 October 2018 Updates adds a separate font size scaling control, but it's not quite what you would expect in the settings. It is not on the Settings> System> Display page, which contains the Scale and Layout tools (or even the Advanced Scaling Settings page). Instead, you need to Settings> Usability> Display to Increase text size .
