You can not use iMessage on Windows. Instead, use these chat apps

It has been found that there are several full-featured messaging options for Windows users.

iMessage Envy is real. Apple's chat service has set the gold standard for a seamless messaging experience where iMessage is displayed on the Mac where you left off on your iPhone. The downside for Windows users: iMessage will not run on your PC. That does not mean that you can not chat comfortably from your Windows PC. For those of us who use a mix of iOS Android Mac and Windows there are now a number of pretty good alternatives.

In the past, we've seen solutions that promise to bring iMessage to Android phones through a series of workarounds. We do not recommend any of these solutions because you often need to pass your Apple credentials to a third party and to forward all your messages through a random server.

While we're dreaming of the day Apple announces iMessage for Windows or Android ( wheeze! ), here are some free messaging alternatives that can fill the void.

WhatsApp on Windows is easy to set up and keeps your calls in sync with your phone.

WhatsApp checks all the boxes for a news service and has a Windows 10 app ($ 124 on Amazon) . After you've installed the app on your phone and created an account, sign in to the Windows 10 app by scanning a QR code that appears the first time you open the app.

You can use the WhatsApp desktop app on multiple computers, but the platform prevents your messages from syncing to multiple computers at the same time. You can view your messages on your phone and the PC you are currently using, and no other place.

Use the desktop app to start new conversations, view your friend's WhatsApp status updates, share emojis and attachments, and search for conversations. Location sharing is not included.

Visit this WhatsApp landing page with links to all of their various apps for various platforms, including Android, Windows Phone, Windows 10, Mac, and iPhone ($ 1,000 at Best Buy) .

Facebook Messenger also has a desktop app.

If you use Facebook, you are familiar with Facebook Messenger. But did you know that Messenger has a special app for Windows users?

Instead of using the messenger website or visiting Facebook directly and taking a rabbit hole full of likes, comments and posts, the Facebook Messenger app looks and works the same way as the website. Use the desktop app to send voice notes, share your location, make voice or video calls, make plans, and find the perfect GIF. However, they have no access to features such as sending stickers, money, or games.

Messages for Web stores your text messages on your computer.

Android News for the Web

The Google News App for Android provides the ability to mirror your SMS conversations on a computer through the News for the Web site. Whatever is on your phone is on your computer and vice versa.

Share photos, videos, and notifications for new messages without having to constantly pick up your phone. There are some features that you will miss, such as: For example, sharing your location, attaching files, and sending and receiving money through Google Pay. However, the main messaging features are all there.

We have a summary of Web Tips if you should opt for this path. One potential downside is that you need to make Android Messages your default messaging app, but I personally prefer messages over competing apps.

Your Phone App on Windows 10 not only brings your messages to your PC. Photos, notifications and screen reflection are also possible.

Microsoft

Use the Your Phone App for Windows 10.

Sorry, iPhone users, this app is not for you. If you're looking for a solution that's better integrated with Windows 10 and Android users, the Microsoft "Your Phone" application is the right choice.

Use the app to view, reply to, and send messages directly from your PC. It also gives you access to the latest photos, notifications on your phone, and screen mirroring.

First install the companion app for your phone on your phone and the Windows 10 version of the app on your PC. Log in to the same Microsoft account on both devices and follow the instructions.
