Your computer has many physical keys. Your iPhone has at most four hardware buttons, none of which are used for typing. This means that the software needs to run the same writing tools found on your Mac or PC, just on a touch screen. Therefore, some features, such as the indentation tools, are so deeply buried that you may not even know that you can "tabulate" backwards and forwards.
In apps like Notes or Pages you only need to open the context menu menu by tapping twice or by long pressing a word or by tapping the cursor. Then tap the right arrows to scroll through the menu. In iOS 12 and earlier, you'll see "Indent Left" and "Indent Right." IOS 1
Just for your information, these options are not available in all apps. They only appear in apps that support indentations, such as: Eg notes and pages. Try invoking the indentation tools in an app without assistance, such as messages or reminders, and you will not find indentation options.
