In a world where Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming services offer an infinite amount of music, Pandora has become more than just internet radio. Today's update introduces new features for personalization and content discovery.
Pandora's mobile apps for iOS and Android are being redesigned with a new "For You" tab containing a constantly updated feed of content that includes recommendations for music and podcasting. The items listed on this tab are tailored and selected by Pandora based on your listening behavior, the mood predicted by the software, and factors such as time of day, day of the week, and so on.
Another feature called Modi lets you specify how a station curates content. The music types played by Pandora are preferred. For example, at Pandora, you can focus on playing newly released music or hidden gems or songs that are crowd pleasers.
Between "For You", "Modes" and Pandora's other recommendation modules, the service is equipped to deliver the ideal audio for every situation, whether it's a rainy day or a happy hour. The company announced plans to launch more than 35 different modules in the coming months. People who listen to Pandora for free and do not have a subscription can still access the For You section without paying after watching a video ad, but only for a single session.
"Our listeners have told us that they love the value of Pandora – it's easy, it works, it knows me, it's really easy," said Chris Phillips. Chief Product Officer of Pandora. "What they did not understand and could not easily access was all the content and programs we have available on Pandora – the new content, the new programming, and the unique content you do not find elsewhere can get.
The improved personalization options will be introduced in an update that will be available to all users in the coming weeks. In a separate release, Pandora has announced the availability of a Dark Mode feature for iPhone and iPad owners with iOS 13 and new voice commands courtesy of SiriKit for Audio. Apple users can easily tell Siri what they want to hear on Pandora, and the app takes things from there.
